JL Audio

It was in a jl powerwedge enclosure that had around 3.0 cu it did pound pretty good but i still cant undertsand how 1500 watts wouldnt smoke em.
Because Zane knew what he was doing, I seriously doubt he ran around town pumping 1500 watts constantly, I think he said he was doing some sort of test. He did however say that eventually that would kill the sub. (I think) Well I know he doesn't recommend it.

listen man go to jlaudio and check out recommended power range, the 12 w6's can handle 500 watts rms BEFORE blowing and there is no way youput 500 watts into all three of those, like we all agree you rpolly put 100 watts into oen adn thought they all smelt, go back and check things out...

Cranking the gain will have the same effects on speakers regaurdless of power. Underpowering DOES NOT damage speakers......

Overpowering speakers CAN damage them. Once they exceede thier mechanical range- poof. Simple physics......

I did a setup a month or so ago, and was running just over 400 watts per sub. If you read the JL sheet, you will see a black line, which they say voids the warranty, but, they also say that mechanical failure CAN occur. They do not recommend powering speakers into the black line, but that does not mean that you can't do it. Will the subs last as long, of course not. But as long as you don't abuse the subs, volume control, gains, etc., they should last a while.

What does magnet size have to do at all with how a speaker performs? So long as there is the appropriate magnetic field arround the speakers Voice Coil, magnet size is moot.

My exact words- from page 2 of this thread.........

My old JL 12W0's were being pushed by an Orion HCCA2100G4.

The subs were mounted in the rear deck of my 85' Tbird facing strait up. These were the first set of subs I used in this install. I later progressed to 2 W6's, then two Polk Momo 12's and the onto 2 Infinity Perfect 12's. Regaurdless, this was a new install that I was evaluating efficiency upon. I never said this was a smart idea out of the blue, however it worked and the W0's were able to handle the power for a considerable ammount of time. (approximately a month and a half - if memory serves.) The woofers were being abused for all practical purposes with that much power, however, in doing so I verified that the design of my install was quite efficient and suitable for further use. In doing so, I was also able to measure the abillities of the woofer beyond what JL had rated them at. I will be the first to say that the W0's are quite under-rated too.

You may also find it interesting that Richard Clark, Tom Nousaine, Howard Doctor, etc all have in house amplifiers capable of 10,000 watts or greater output. These are used for thier testing purposes when they evaluate woofers for the reviews they print in thier respective magazines.

If you care to ask each one of these people about this please go to http://www.carsound.com to reach Richard Clark, http://www.m-emag.com to reach Tom Nousaine, and http://www.autosoundmag.com to reach Howard Doctor.

That pretty much sums up how the JL's handled it. This is also something I am guilty of on a regular basis, as I do review and evaluate several speakers/installs quite frequently. Not saying that this is wise, however, one has to push the limits to know the limits when physics are involved.

[Hey stupid you really have not idea what you're doing maybe you should keep installation to the pros.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif

Again, this was highly uncalled for. Please refrain from these types of comments in the future. Everyone is free to have fun here, however, not at someone elses expense.

you distort a speaker it pops you over power it it makes a really loud "clank" enough to make you think someone hit your car with a brick...if it sounds crappy before this you are either clipping it or the sub gets a snappy crack..that would be the suspension breaking down woot woot least with most high quality subs and actual clean power

Ok yea I see now since you probally had it in the right enclosure and i was just skimmin through this thread and did'nt really read all of it and i saw 1500 watts into 2 12 wos and i was like WTF never thought the w0s were capable of handling that much power especially 2 of them seen 3 of them off a fosgate 800.2 that just pounded but i see now that install is the most part of it and I personally knew Jl underrates thier subs seeing as I have owned thier subs and amps and loved em but I knew the w3s especially since I had 500/1 runnin em and they still wanted more. Ok now i do have a question my father in law wanted a system in his porsche not a comp but somthing that will hit I suggested maybe on 10 or 12 instead he got one of Jls discontunued w2 subs which I think are simialar to w0s its a 8 inch sub in a bandpass so i went to Jl and its a 75watts continious and didnt list peak so what siaze amp should I put to it money is really no option just somthing that will get it bumping. I was thinkin of maybe a jl 250/1 but it will most likly over power that lil thing so zane anyone give me your opinions.

Yea well since Jl is capable of more rms than its said to have then i want the most outta it. I was thinkinh maybe 150 would'nt over power it.
