Cranking the gain will have the same effects on speakers regaurdless of power. Underpowering DOES NOT damage speakers......

Overpowering speakers CAN damage them. Once they exceede thier mechanical range- poof. Simple physics......

Over powering a sub will screw a sub up but not as fast if you under power then through what they need to it that will burn a voice coil up i have tried to see what t would do lol it was on a pos woofer though lol ]

How exactly do you figure?

Overpowering exceeds the speakers mechanical limits, where does underpowering excede any mechanical or electrical linit of a speaker?

Only the moron on the other end of the volume/gain control can damage speakers, that is however, regaurdless of wattage.

eheh zane you starting to think like me i see... hmm i wongder why you can put 40 watt bulbs in 100 watt lights? lol anyone notice suspensions on speaker per enclosure? physical limits on a speaker is a reallly loud clap not a little pop...clipping ,low dampening factor , distortion bad boxxes are usually what kills a speaker you "cook it" you clipped it.

ya know, no matter how much you prove something to people, they still refuse to believe you. and you end up stuck in the same, endless arguments. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

You have to realize that the underpowering deal is about one of the biggest myths in car audio- so there is a lot of mis-information out there on this matter. Not everyone has gotten the correct information yet, so while it may seem redundant at times, it is still necessary to explain things to those who havent learned as much as others yet.

Everyone has different experience levels, however, to obtain experience, one has to work with another that has experience. This way the blind dont lead the blind in a matter of saying.

ALRIGHT ALREADY!!!! Can we lay this topic to rest!? It is not going anywhere!!! Underpowering speakers cannot damage them. That is the completely unarguable truth that cannot be challanged by anyone. If you do you will be cursed and 10,000 mad goats will stomp you to death and eat your car stereo system!! I'm sick of seeing this thread in my e-mail every ******* day!!! AAAAHHHHGGGGGG!!!!!

10,000 mad goats ehh? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

most curious................

As for the e-mail bit- edit your profile to turn off your e-mail messaging if you wish to no longer recieve e-mails for every time someone posts.

Thanks Zane. I was unaware of that feature. OK, only 5,000 mad goats now.

all i was told is that if you under power a woofer that it can damge it or if the amp does not have enough power for the sub that it can cause the amp to burn up and take the sub with it thats all im sayin g dudes

Well, to be point blank honest, you were a little misinformed on that matter.

So long as the gains/volume are used properly and not abused, your amplifier is producing clean power- which is good.

What happens most of the time, is that people purchase small amps due to financial reasons ,and when they discover that the amp is not powerful enough to produce the output they are looking for; they try to compensate for this lack of output by increasing the gain or the volume control settings. Once they have done this, the amplifier is driven into clipping and is no longer producing clean power; it is producing a distorted, clipped, power signal- which is very bad for speakers; regaurdless of how much power is actually delivered.

In the end, it all comes down to user error........

Hopefully this explains things a little better for you. If you have any other questions, by all means please ask. I would be happy to elaborate a little farther if needed.

yea i have a 1000 watt woofer and i blow them on my 1000 watt amp when i dont have my volume cranked...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
