whats up people, mabe some one out there can help me out and answer a question for me.......i just purchaced a jl audio 12"W7 and its rated at 750 rms and i think 1000 or 1200peek.....my question is about ohms....this sub i believe is a three ohm single voice coil woofer, what exactly is the difference between 8 4 3 2 or 1 ohm....i bought a amplifier that is one ohm stable just incase there was a certin wiring configuration to get the most out of the amp and sub.....so anyones knowlage whould be appriciated...thanks

Sorry you bought those. Splendid woofers, just way too expensive for my taste. There's better for much less.

Anywho, wire the two subs in parallel to 1.5 ohms in order to get the most power out of your amp.

you have a single 3 ohm woofer what is your amp rated at 4 and 2 ohms?

Ohms are resistance to electrical current, so 8 ohms is a lot of resistance, which is gonna minimize your amps out put, 4 ohms is standard resistance and what plenty of amps make good power into. at 2 ohms if your amp is capable you get twice as much power as at 4 ohms. and 1 ohm having the least resistance will get the most power out of your amp.

so you have a 3 ohm subwoofer and an amp that makes the most power at 1 ohm, what that means is your sub is not gonna get the full power of your amp, this is why JL audio amplifiers have highly regulated power supplies that let their amps make same power from 1-4 ohms, which is a gimmic to get people to buy them when they have 3 ohms subs.

you need an amp that makes 1K into 4 ohms, so probably a 2 channel bridged.

agreed.....I bought a 12W7 sealed and through a Fusion NV2500 at it which makes about 1000-1200 rms at 3ohms but hardly seems like its getting enough.....next up is the **** expensive 1000/1.....good luck...

buy some new ohms for your W7... JL sells them with weird ohms so that they can sucker people into buying one of their amps as well.

if you replace the ohms with standard ones (dual 2, single 1, quad 7) you can use any amp you want //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
