jl audio question

i just bought 2 12'' w-0 subs at 4 ohms and i pluged it into a profile ap600 channel amp rated at 100 rms the speakers are 125 rms and it sounded really weak like i had no bass, the speakers were not in a box just in my trunk i wanted to hear how they sounded. i was rather disapointed? is it the amp? or just because the subs werent in a box?

Ah yea ...sub dont really get loud unless thier in a box...it just kinda goes hand and hand

i got so worried because they barley made any noise and i had the gain all the way up and everything hahah even the sub volume on my head unit was at 100 percent.

I could put a mtx jackhammer 22 in free air and at 10 feet away outside, not even hear it.

A subwoofer makes 2 waves and they are out of phase with each other and cancel out almost 100% in free air. If you put them in a box, the second wave is attenuated and things get a lot louder.
