jl audio peeps

that's strange b/c its say this
e1800D: 1066 watts @ 2 ohms

Not strange at all. They say this:

"Performance Overview:

• Efficient Class D design, optimized for subwoofer applications

• Highly flexible low-pass filter

• Power rated at 12.5 volts DC, not 14.4 or 13.8 V. (No inflated ratings at unrealistic vehicle voltages). If these were rated at 14.4 V, like most amplifiers...

e1400D: 533 watts @ 2 ohms

e1800D: 1066 watts @ 2 ohms"

The other ratings I gave are what those amps are rated for at 12.5 volts.

I believe the ZRs are just new components, not subs.
Right offa the page....

ZR WOOFERS:

Custom-engineered, proprietary cast aluminum woofer baskets were designed to provide maximum rear open area while also incorporating JL Audio’s patented “Elevated Frame” cooling system. This cooling technology, shared with JL Audio’s W7 subwoofers, allows air to flow directly across the top-plate and onto the voice coil windings to greatly improve linearity at all listening levels.

Within the DMA optimized woofer motor structure, CNC-machined back-plate, pole piece and top-plate elements offer a degree of precision not possible with conventional forged or stamped parts. The ultra-thin gauge voice coil is treated with proprietary, high-temperature adhesives and wound on an aluminum former to further improve thermal transfer, reliability and linearity at high power levels.

For the critical cone and suspension elements, we once again turned to our partners at Germany’s Kurt Müller & Co., whose track record of consistency and meticulous quality control is very well established in the loudspeaker industry. The low mass, mineral-filled polypropylene cones and butyl rubber surrounds are inherently well damped to deliver an uncolored, neutral midrange without any “artificial flavoring”. Kurt Müller & Co. also supplies the symmetrical-roll, hybrid-weave spiders used in the ZR woofers. """

But I could be wrong...

I have a 12w7-3 and I’m running a HIFONICS bx1500d amp. Seeing how the sub is svc 3ohm and the specs of the amp are: (14.4 volts) 500@4ohms / 1000@2ohms / 1500@1ohm, I’m assuming I’m getting 750 watts RMS @ a 3ohm load. My math is (500+1000)/2=750. My question is, is there a significant different in performance on the 12w7 if I have ~1200 watts going to it, compared to the 750 that I have going to it now? Of course you might be biased and not be able to answer the question due to me not having a jl amp, so I’ll ask a 2nd question. Is there a huge different in performance w/this sub if one uses a 500/1 compared to a 1000/1?

..and woofer doesn't always mean subwoofer. The press release is talking about their components. 6 1/2 inch drivers are referred to woofers all the time.

I really don't think JL has a new ZR line of subwoofers coming out.

but given that the press release is talking about the components, and that drawing looks like a 6 1/2 inch speaker(in comparison to the 1" tweeter next to it), and the mention of Dr. Muehler in Germany(who designed the XR series components), i am going with components.

how old is this thread?

the new woofer is the W1v2, slighly better than the W0 (from what i hear, they are not making a W0 this year anymore, but it will probably come back next year as a W0v2 or something). the W1v2's will be available in 10, 12, and 13" sizes, they handle something like 150 watts RMS, and will be around the same price as W0.

they added a new 15W3v2 to the line up, which is wierd, because there is a new W3, the W3v3. the W3v3 has a silver cone, handles the same amount of power as the v2 (300watts RMS). here is something new also, both the W1v2 and W3v3 will have RUBBER surrounds, kinda different for JL it seems.

the e1400d and e1800d are the new e-series monoblocks, my local shop told me that the e1400d will be sold for $300, while the e1800d will be around $500-$550 (i think MAP was $500), you can get these amps a little cheaper if you haggle.

and the ZR's, the latest components, which are higher up than the XR's, will be pretty expensive, considering that the MSRP is about $800.

thats all the info i got, check your local JL dealer, see if they can let you see the documentation on the new stuff.
