Hello guys, I have a problem with my JL Audio 500/1 amp. The subwoofer sometimes plays and sometimes it doesnt. I looked into it and when i switch aux ports, it works at the 2nd one but with alot of extra noise, and a bit of distortion (Yes, i tried changing out the aux cable, still the same problem). The first one works, but only sometimes. I just opened it up, but i have no idea where to go from here lol. Here are some pics:

And the ports:

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

hmm.. i use ones that say left ch and right ch (Which only works sometimes). But if i switch them over to the left output/right output they work, but with an extra noise, and a small bit of distortion

To be honest, the panel in the back had only 2 screws in place, the middle and left. The middle one was stripped so i had to use a screw extractor to take it out. Is there anyway that this couldve been an issue? Sorry im a noob at this lol..

Are you running a Pioneer Head Unit?

There have been a lot of problems with the grounds on the RCA's of those units.

But most likely you have some issue in your Amp that is beyond my help.

The outputs are supposed to be used for sending signal to another amplifier not as inputs. Leave the RCAs connected to the inputs. If the amp is cutting out the most likely problem is voltage drop, if the voltage drops below 10VDC at the amp, it will shut off then restart when the voltage returns to a safe level. It could also be a bad ground, or short in the speaker wires. Does the thermal or low Ω light come on when the amp shuts off?

The amp stays on, the power light stays on. And those 2 other lights never came on. The ground we changed 3 times, its perfectly grounded. The speaker wires are fine. Everything seems fine, except the aux ports.. (Which i already changed the aux cables). When im driving it just randomly stops playing (The amp stays on). I drilled the amp to the back of the seat that folds, and when folded down, it works sometimes, with the seat up, it works rarely. I hit a bump and it has a high chance of shutting off. Im thinking its something in the amp thats loose? Im not sure.. Any help is much appreciated, again.

Do you think I should do the big 3? However, it worked fine before.. (When i didnt have my speaker amp installed as well, it worked fine, but sometimes it shut off the sub. But when i put the speaker amp in it seems to shut off more..)

Its the amp.. If you are dropping low voltage with that much power you have a issue in the cars charging system somewhere. You can find those all day for $150, if you really want that amp find another one used. It will cost to much to get it fixed. JL is a rip off in so many ways, big rip off on repairs.

UPDATE: It seems that one screw was missing from the back panel, i replaced all 3 of them, and I'm not sure but the amp seems to work perfectly fine now.. Ill have to drive around some more to confirm that.. (There were 3 screws on the back panel, 1 was stripped and 1 was intact, 1 was missing as well, so i replaced all 3) Im clueless right now, but happy lol..
