JL AUDIO 12W7H.O Problem - Advice Needed

The ground is equally as important as the pos. connection, and quite often causes problems in peoples first setups, or if done by an installer who doesn't really know what he's doing. As pro-rabbit said, I doubt it's a voltage issue.

Did that shop sell you a brand new arc amp, because that sucker looks used since the control plate looks scrached up.

Might be a bad amplifier, and I cannot believe a shop would let a system go out the door with the amplifier turning on and off like that you are not even pushing it at a 3ohm load.

I wasn't going to mention any of that. I was attempting to be nice.

yea, well supposedly it was in the "warehouse." im not even quite sure how much those amps go for.. any idea?

Sometimes I cannot help myself! When I was new at this back in 91 I wish I had someone around that did not sugar coat things. If I was the op I would go back and question the authenticity of that amplifier being new or used.

I have ran my 12w7 off 500rms and it did just fine. Op find your sales slip go back to the shop and ask them to give you a new amplifier and make them take it out of the box and walk with them and watch them take your old one out and put the new one in.

Their store is closed right now, but i will be back there 100% right away in the morning.. im starting to get the feeling that i was pretty much taken advantage of.. Does $500 seem reasonable for that amp+install despite the fact of it not being able to work properly?

For a BNIB version nope..decent deal for retail.
You could have bought a JL 1000/1 from craigslist and installed it yourself for less more then likely though.
other than seeing the exterior of the amp and wear and tear on it, i suppose there is no real way of telling if it was actually new or not?

ahh.. i thought so.. i appreciate everything you've guys contributed to my ordeal here.. its great to know that someone who just joins a forum with absolutely no credibility or knowledge of this stuff can get help like this from all angles... i will go back to the store first thing in the morning and try to rectify this situation. ill keep you all posted.
