JL Audio 10w7 foam repair?

I have a JL Audio w7 which has a crack in the middle of the foam surround. The crack is about 2" long. The speaker is about 4 years old with very little usage. The surround cracked because that area of the speaker was exposed to sunlight while sitting in a parked car for about 2 years. JL audio wants $300 plus shipping to repair it. I've been dying to the JL back in my car. Any advice would be appreciated greatly.

Might not be the prettiest thing but you can use the urethane based adhesive that they put windshields in cars with..

Just tape the front side of the surround up and goop it on the back side...your not out anything..and a 20 dollar tube of glue is far better then 300 bucks for a recone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

sell it to some dumb kid who watches unique whips. take the cash and get yourself a real sub, like a DD
shut. up. this is perhaps teh most ignorant statement i have seen you make.

X2 hells yes
you guys DO realize that the w7 and the dd (any series, except MAYBE the 9100 series) are aimed at a totally different audience.. right? (actually.. the way a good friend of mine described the sound of dd 9500's was "the sound of a dogs asshole after a night of eating at the dump") //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and also- i would take a w6 over a w7 any day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I don't agree with nick often. but totally agree on this. The subs aren't the best IMO. why waste 300 for one buy a new sub or repair it yourself who cares how it looks. you could try 100 percent silicone from the back some of the speaker might work. not sure though. if it works prob would look better

Just glue it up the way it is, worse comes to worse, you'll be reconeing it, or getting another one anyway, so unless you get glue everywhere it really won't matter, might as well give it a shot.

yeah the W7 was aimed at being a paperweight. Well it has pretty good output sealed and sq. But as much as it cost it is junk
if you cant afford it.. seems that the "almighty" w7 is 50 x more well known than fi/dd/re/tc/any other online company's woofer.. so.. i would say they are doing something right...i would venture a guess they sell quite well at there price point as well;) (waits to be called a "jl sackrider, even though i dont run, nor will i ever, jl equipment)

thanks for the advise. You're right, $20 sounds alot better than $300. Are there any type of "patch" kits out there that will be strong enough and flexible enough to work?
