JL Audio 1000/1 paying for the name?

I agree
most people on here like low priced stuff

JL makes a good product, people on here just dont wanna spend $$ for quality.
x2 on this everyone seems to push all these low priced companies and look more towards SPL rather than SQ imo. however im not a JL fan. and as someone else also stated they do run hot, ive seen them in action for about a year now, and that 1000.1 put a major strain on a silverados alternator with a yellow top.

im a big fan of rockford fosgate amps though, a lot of the mono amps will put out roughly 400-500rms more than what they are rated at and they are just a nice amp. (pricey compared to all these AQs and crap though but are solid amps)

Well i found a really nice deal on the JL amp. for under $450 so I went with it. Is my infinity reference amp. not a quality amp? It was recommended to run my components by several companies so I guess it didn't occur to me that it isn't a good amplifier? I know everyone has their likes and dislikes and lots of people say something "sucks" because they heard it from someone else and decided to jump on the bandwagon. Has anyone actually heard this amp? What didn't they like about it? I can still return it if there is a better option. I certainly don't want my amp. limiting my Hertz componenets. I know I'm pretty green to this hobby but I appreciate the help and would like to learn from other's mistakes.

There is nothing wrong with the Infinity Reference amplifier and it will work fine for your Hertz components. What makes you think that an Infinity Reference amplifier will "limit your Hertz components"?

Well I hear people throwing around terms like "clean power" as if the infinity amp. won't deliver such a thing. The Hertz components have a much higher rms rating as well. So I wasn't sure that I would be powering them adequately. I'm not looking for huge sq numbers just a nice system that is pleasing to hear and will be reliable. My reference amp puts out 75 watts rms per channel and the Infinity components put out 100 rms and the Hertz something like 125 rms.

Since you already have the Infinity amplifier, you may as well use it. What are the so called experts who are on the Infinity bashing bandwagon recommending that you get?

Then again, you could always get a JL Audio 300/2 to match your 1000/1.

It is difficult to know what is "good" and what isn't as everyone has their opinion. What I thought would be a good choice always seems to have people who say it isn't. Course if you go with what they recommend there are people who say that isn't a good product. Life would be so much easier if everyone just agreed! hahahahaha I thought about going with a JL 4 channel amp., not so much to match as you'll never see either of the amps. but because I figured JL was a good product. I've owned several of their "w" series subwoofers and I was pleased but maybe it was because I never really heard anything else. At the local car audio stores, they were pushing infinity as the nicest component set so I went with them and an amp to power them. I get on here and people say the infinity is overpriced and doesn't sound nice. The whole process has been shall I say...frustrating. I live in So. Cal. and even around here the car audio places don't have much in the way of setups to listen to. Word of mouth is about all one has to go off of and that brings its own set of problems. Guess I'll just try what I have and go from there. Thanks.

Hey don't feel bad because even at my age I made the mistake of letting others influence my decision based on how a particular brand of "old school" amplifier was supposedly the golden gem of sound quality amplifiers. I spent two years collecting them, and when it came time to use them all in an install, I quickly found out that they: were overpriced for old school gear, couldn't produce rated power, colored the sound, and were highly inefficient! In other words, they turned out to be royal pieces of sh*t for my install and music listening tastes!

Unfortunately, word of mouth only goes so far and you have to end up relying on trial and error in your own setups. Sadly, you will quickly learn that what works great for someone, may not work for you. OTOH, what someone says sucks, may work great for you. Isn't car audio fun?

Well I sent the infinity reference amp. back in favor a jl 450/4 v2 4 channel amp. Should more than adequeatly power my components and give me a little more tuning.
