Jl At Crutchfeild

Jl's hype will only last so long....The W7 woofer is an old design thats been out done by many mfg's and at half the price (FIQ for example) and that 1000W amp for 1.00 per watt

is ludicrous - I get a kick though of the ignorance of the people who nuthug JL,always defending the company's hype....

Ok, I used to run JL and I know they are a bit overpriced, but just so people understand part of the reason the amp runs so high ($1.00 per watt) is because that 1000watts is at 4 ohms or 2 ohms. They let you set up in a manner to minimize heat and trying to maximize power by dropping to ridiculously low ohm loads. Just a bit of explanation as to their justification for the price.

If they are not all that they are cracked up to be... why do they keep winning awards in various categories at nearly every show they compete at? Is it a vast conspiracy?

Not trying to be argumentative...just would like to hear your honest take on that.

I will agree JL makes some good stuff. A little over priced.IMO

BUT-Who is winning SQ comps with JL in there car as of here lately. Do tell cause I am not tracking JL is cleaning up a comps.

AMP wise, Genesis, Zapco, DLS ect are cleaning up.

HAT, ID, Scan, DLS, Focal ect are still cleaning up on the speaker side of the house.

SUBS-ID still seems to be in a ton of vehicles.

I can list a bunch of comps cars and what they have in them but I am not really tracking a bunch of winners with any JL products.

ID....Image Dynamics? If that's who you mean, I repsect their products whole heartedly. Stout Subs those IDQ's and IDmax. Good SPL and SQ.

And yes, I agree Zapco are stellar amps. But aren't they a little more pricey that the JL slash series? I could be wrong on this. But nonetheless they are awesome amps.

I myself was (and still am) a huge fan of Zapco reference series and the PPI PC series (the greys as I called them). Those were bad *** amps.

What I meant by awards was awards at SEMA or CES shows for product quality, innovation, technological advances, etc. They have something like 11 original patents that have lead to where they are now, in terms of thermal efficiancy and thus better linearity throughout all volume levels (the subs).

And their amps being over-priced...I agree with the poster above that what you are paying for is basically the R.I.P.S.... I.E. the amps rated RMS power regardless of the ohm or voltage.

R.I.P.S is great I guess. Don't see the need for additional cost of it. Why not get more power at 2 or 1ohm vs. the same power.

Lets be honest how many people today are running 4ohm mono. Not many it todays market with the sub that are out people are running 2 and 1ohm.

So lets look at ARC FD1200.1 just an example.

510 x1 @4 ohms, 1,010x1 @2 ohms, & 1,100x1 @1 ohm mono

So I just got more power for less money and I don't think anyone will argue to much that ARC is one of the best amps out there. Just a thought and they don't need any fancy patent. All amps built on basic amp designs that were created by designers years and years ago. The basic design of an amp has not changed in probably about 15+ years so components inside have changed but thats about it. Its not like JL invented some new form of amp.

I never said Zapco was cheap. I would take Zapco any day over JL. I have owned JL more that once no comparison to Zapco or Zapco support.IMO

LMMFAO...............WTF? do you call the other 99% of subwoofers out there if a W7 is an old design. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I never cease to be amazed. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

No kidding. All respect to Scott, but the W7 is a better driver in my eyes than a Q, and the price reflects that.

Retail price is crazy. I live in the Detroit area and bought a 13W7, 1000/1, and a Kicker 0awg kit for a little under 1000 from Car Tunes. You can not go by retail. Authorized dealers (not Crutchfield) can do way better than Retail.

Also i got my 450/4 from a diffrent store for 450

If you compare that with what JL does, take the 2 ohm load and spread it across the board. The 1000/1 will give you 100 watts..at 2 ohms.....4 ohms...1 ohms....8 ohms....9,3758 ohms.... 11 volts, 12.5 volts, 14 volts, whatever.
