So I am trying to fix my JL 500/1 amp. The terminal for the remote wire's screw head is stripped out. So I have the amp disassembled and can not for the life of me get that screw to loosen cause the head is so stripped, ANY IDEAS????

my sister's boyfriend stripped it out a long time ago and I just got around to trying to fix it. JL told me it would cost me $150 for them to fix it and other places have told me 80-100 as well.

But all I have to do is get the **** screw loose and I am home free, find another screw at hardware store and bam all good. Especially since the amp only has maybe 6 mos of play on it and is in mint condition I really wanna get this sucker running and am going to put it in my mom's explorer with 2 12w3s in a JL prowedge box.

another reason I say fok jl //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. I dunno jack about tools //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif but arent there some things you can drill into the screw and use to get the screw out? Yea I know I did a great job explaining it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif. I'm sure someone can tell ya what ya need //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

correct me if I'm wrong, but even if you loosen it the screw won't come out all the way. JL did this to avoid losing the screws IIRC. I sold mine already or I would know for sure. Good luck anyway.

that is why I had to disassemble the entire amp... so I could remove the part that prevents the screws from coming all the way out. I can get the other screws out now, I just have to get the remote screw out.

and it doesn't take an alen wrench, they change to the alen wrench heads after the first batch/version of the amps. This is one of the very first 500/1s made. so it has flat head screws.

got a drill out, hope this works, just gotta let me drill charge.

check it out.... under the hood....

dang piece of crap drill. I have two batteries for my power drill and they both are dead and won't hold a charge. Time to get a new drill. Now I have the amp all apart on the kitchen table and can't finish it today.

you have a problem with the remote lead wire right? can you not just flip the switch on the amp and have the amp turned on by the RCA's? Thats what I did with mine. You don't "need" the remote terminal.

what switch??? I am going to check on that.

ok, found it in the manual. It is not reccomended to do it that way by the manual, especially if running an active xover (out of the headunit) it is only used if running full range to the amp, then using the amps crossover.

It will work for now, but I still gotta get that **** screw out.

So use the amps crossover settings.....

Got the screw out!!!!!!

and I am replacing all the power/ground/remote and speaker wire terminal screws with new Hex headed screws. The local ACE hardware has the exact same screws with hex heads and will work much better. So I am changing them all while I have the amp apart and prevant this problem from happening again.
