JL 500-1 setting gains

Im setting the gains on my JL 500-1 with a voltmeter and had one question. It says to turn the volume up 3/4 when doing it. Is that 3/4 volume in relation to the loudest i would listen to my stereo? Or 3/4 of the maximum volume my head unit will go?

3/4 of the max volume on the head unit. if one day youre really cranking it, you may go past the normal listening level you set it to and start clipping signals. so id do it at 3/4 of the headunit

What does clipping signals mean? Is it bad? Also my bass and treble settings go from -7-7, should they be set at 0 for this?

yeah lol....and it means at 3/4 volume that your hu goes up to. (make sure your eq's etc. are off as well)

Thanks! I have it installed and almost completely tuned, i just want to set my gains a little better. It makes my 2 10w3s sound amazing...

I dont have bass blockers or an amp going to my speakers so when i put the 50hz test cd in i get bass through them...How can i do this without blowing my speakers? I have bass blockers ordered so should i just wait until i put them in to set the gains?

So how can i do this 50hz test cd without hurting my speakers? The only adjustments i have in my head unit are for bass (-7-7), treble (-7-7) and subwoofer (0-15). Should i put the bass and treble at 0 or at -7?

0 0 and 15 then fade back and disconnect rear speakers

OK I like that, i could fade back and right so i only have to take out one speaker. I just didn't want to take them all out as i just did that! You guys know where to get a good test tone from??? I need 50Hz at 0 Db right?

??? you don't need to take out any speaker, just unhook it from the amp.

Well i dont have one yet...im getting bass blockers in the mean time but until i have the time for the install im waiting...
