JL 500/1 cutting out

I have a JL 500/1 amp, it was working fine and now all of a sudden it seems to cut out. It'll work then stop. I will have to turn the volume up really loud and sometimes it will kick in sometimes it wont, but it goes on and off. I replaced it with an old kicker amp and same wiring everything seemed fine... What can I do other than get a new amp? has anyone heard of something like this before?

Its sounds like you have the input sensitivity up too high . Try lowering it and see if that helps

Thanks! I'll try that. It's at 3/4's right now. I need to get a new torx screw driver piece I can't rescrew everything!

How would one have their ohm load to low? Maybe it's because i'm a dumb **** and didn't say it's a 12w7.... wouldn't those 2 work together well?

they work great togather now that you stated what sub you have what i suggested is not a possibilty

dose the power turn off and on, my friend has one and it cut in and out- it was the rca jacks.

if you have a voltage meter, un hook the w7 and find a test cd that has a bass track recorded at 50hz at 0db. turn off all eq settings or set them to flat. set the input sen. on the amp to low. turn the gain all the wayto low and set your deck to 3/4 volume and use the meter on the speaker termanals of the amp and turn the gain up while playing the test track untill you get 38.7 volts. if you dont have a test cd, my friends amp's gain was just a hair past half

So I tore the car apart to narrow down the issue. I looked at everything and it was fine so I pulled up the trunk to see the ground, the ground looked ok so I tugged at it, it jiggled. I then gave a little tug again and the ground popped out. it disconnected from the piece we screwed to the car. I'll need a new ground cable to screw on and I'll be fine.

also be careful your not underpowering your 12w7 with a 500/1 amp.....cause im using that to power my 10w7. at times it feels like i could be feeding it a bit more. just a thought
