The obvious and IMO- one of the most important comparrison factors. The test tracks. They need to be well recorded, and feature a good number of frequencies, beats, and instruments, among other things.

There are several excellent recordings available.

One that I have recently became very fond of is "Insatiable" by Darren Hayes. He was the singer for the band Savage Garden, and now is solo. The song is more of a romantic pop-balad with a punch. It does cover a good range musically, which is why I have been using it as a key resource track in tuning my own system.

yanno its like people think you can tune to certain songs like rap but how the heck can you say ur subs dont sound muddy when playing mud? if rap is your thing and you are saying you know what we are talkin about or you disagree or you dont know he is a lil insight lets say you had an old school fat boys song and they were doing their human beat box...in an sq system you could put together how he was movin his mouth and the imperfections of which he was doin it...... lol now you can tune somewhat to spl with rap songs but i think if you stepped into a sound off tuning this way i think more times than not you would get embarassed..... seen it a few times at shows....those guys end up leavin sayin the judges dont know anything when infact they competitors just didnt bother learning the criteria for the event
