JL 12w7 vs Brahma 15

I purchased a Brahma 15 and I am powering it by a JBL 1200.1 amp. My local shop has never heard of the brahma and says that it cant beat the 12w7 in SQ or SPL. I believe that the brahma is better in both areas. He told me that if my brahma can beat his 12w7, then he will give me 10% off the entire store. What do you think??? Brahma or 12w7???

FOR one, thats bs!!!!!!!!! two, what amp does he have that w7 hooked up with? three, the w7 is only 750 watts rms, so it can't be that loud if your running 1200 rms to that brahma. And 4, is yours sealed or ported? either way, you should tell the shop to test the w7 in the same kind of box you have, bc its unfair if they port their sub and you have yours sealed, big db difference. Hope this helps you win 10% off the store!!!

Beat it in what?

SQ is purely subjective.

SPL?

He's taking a big risk...

Either way, until it is in writing.. doesn't matter... I wouldn't care what he thinks, if you like it, roll with it.

he has a 12w7 in a custom sealed enclosure...and im going to hook it up to my amp...so it will be the same amp and pretty much the same enclosure. now what do you think???

I believe it's a no win situation for you. I highly doubt the sincerity behind his words. If you set both up in similar conditions, and he finds the SQ of the Brahma to be superior, do you think he would admit such a thing? Why not just give you money for no reason. The "contest" would depend too highly on his ears. If you were to bring in outsiders for double blind listening tests, it may be more in your favour. But as jlaine stated, SQ is purely subjective. Everyone has their own interpretation of what a subwoofer should sound like. As far as SPL is concerned, he could use several "excuses" if the W7 is not the victor. i.e - The W7 is a SQ oriented sub, the W7 has a smaller power handling, etc. If you think you can convince him otherwise, do it.

i know he can make up excuses, i just want to prove them all wrong....they all sort of laughed at me when i said the brahma could beat it so it pissed me off!!!! The numbers dont lie....I don't care for his excuses. I just want to prove him wrong.

You may sway some, but for those who have made up in their minds before hand which subwoofer is superior, you will not succeed, regardless of the tests. I would suggest doing a double blind test on the fellow who dismissed the Brahma without prior knowledge of it.

ok i will do that, its not a real big deal. its not like whoever loses has to give up there system. im still curious to what other people think would win though? w7 or brahma?

I was not impressed with the W7 I heard, not at all. Without actually hearing the Brahma (and purchasing one as well!) I can't say for sure. Although opinions are opinions, the Brahma should cook it.

Challenge him to a DB Drag for pinkslips, Fast and Furious style!

Wow that guy is dumb the Brahma will kick the shit out of any JL any day. WHAT IS HE THINKING!!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

im hearin good things so far //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif now i just need my brahma to come in!!! my amp came yesterday

Originally posted by phattyex why does everyone knock the w7? Its a great sub! It seems as though everyone likes to slam the most versitile sub on the market.
There is never a doubt that the sub performs well; however, that being said, for the price and the amount JL built the sub up to be, it is far from amazing. What makes it the most versitile sub on the market? Have you heard an IDMAX before? Or a Brahma? Or a Blueprint 03 series? What are you basing this claim of "most veristile" on?

There's no doubt the W7 is a solid sub, the question lies in whether it lives up to all the hype and the hefty price tag. And as far as its versatility it has already been proven to lack in the higher frequencies ranges, some even stating its weak as low as 50Hz and above. Is that your definition of versatile? An IDMax will take you from 120Hz on down without a problem.

I think it would be a decent challenge if they were both 12's. But I think the W7 doesn't stand a chance in SPL against the 15" Brahma, and I don't even think it could beat a 12" Brahma. Any SQ differences will probably be due to their sizes. I also think the test should be handicapped due to the price of the subs. If you can even MATCH his SQ and SPL with a sub that costs almost half as much you should win.
