jl 12w7 building ported box help

hey

i have a 12w7 right now in a sealed box.. but the amp i have is underpowering it... i have a jbl 1300 or wahtever it is... and it starts to clip. im tryin to get my sub LOUD.... so i am gonna build a ported box. waht wood should i use? also... is ported worth it? feel free to help with plans too!!

Clipping a W7, thats just retarded.

ok.. i already built my sealed box and that sounds good... is there nay suggestions about a ported box?? also, how many sheets of MDF do you think i will need?

1 sheet should be suffice

go to JL's site and see what the reccomended tuning for the port is

Use their slot port guide since its accurate

their tunign is on a jl amp... i have the jbl 1200.1. will it be the same?? also, i am usign their guide and it doesnt seem too hard as long as i am careful... really careful. umm... is there anythign i need to be aware of when i am doing it in terms of what i could screw up? thanks for the help...

By tuning i meant the "port tuning", what frequency does JL suggest ?

oh my bad...JL recommends 32 HZ... what does that mean?

download the product manual for the w7 off thier site. it should have plans for a ported box in the manual

Just tune to 32 hz and it will be alot louder than the sealed

the lower its tuned to the better the sq (mid to high 20's?)

The higher the tune, the higher the spl, but you lose sq as you go higher. (mid 30's and above)

I guess its best to have it in the lower 30''s or high 20's if you want to have a good mixture of both.
