JL 12w7 Amp Inquiry

Hey everyone-New to this forum FYI.

I just picked up a JL 12w7 in a JL hi box. I got it for a steal and couldnt pass it up. Wasnt a huge JL fan due to the prices, but now that i am 6 years older than i was when i has two 15 rockford fosgate t1's in my jeep, money is now not an issue. i had 2400 that i want to drop on the rest of this system.

I was wondering what amp would be best for this woofer. I am leaning towards a JL 1000/1 v2 for the sub. I understand that the JL 500/1 v2 would suffice, but i figure why not do it right the first time around and give it what it needs. Are there any other options that could be less expensive that could allow me to put my money into other parts of my system?

I have read that the JL 12w7 runs at an odd ohm and works best with a JL amp, preferably the 1000/1 as that is the top this woofer can handle.

Also any ideas on replacement speakers for the rest of the car? I have 2 tweets, 6 x 9's and i believe some other dimensions in the back that are smaller than 6 x 9 but not tweets. I am not a huge audiophile but if im going to do something i like to go all out and do it right.

Thanks so much guys.

JL suckers you in to buying their amps with their stupid ohm loads. The 1000/1 is a great amp with lots of good power but they are not effeciant at all. The same RIPs tech that gives it its power ***** a lot of juice at the same time. If you got such a good deal I would try to flip it and get something better so your not stuck getting that amp.

There are other amp options of course but that one suits it best

Most people on here will probably recommend selling it. People here arent big JL fans at all.

The 1000/1 will suck some power, but I think I'd still run it. Its a great amp, wont run hot and does rated power no matter what ohm between 1.5 and 4 and any voltage from 11-16v.

The w7 sounds very nice and since you already have it, I say use it.

As far as speakers, I'd say look into Boston Acoustics particularly SR series and be sure to amp them.

I will agree JL gets ya to buy their amps with their weird ohm loads (despite their claim that the 3 ohm coils simply were the best for the subs performance).

Nice equipment nonetheless especially if you get it for a good deal.

They tell you that 1ohm final loads take away the SQ of a sub but they make a cheap 1ohm amp. Sounds like a great company for sure

that amp is for people who simply want the JL name, every company has its entry level crap.

If you want an amp that will do 1000W@3Ω, you just need an amp that is rated for 1500W@2Ω.
old school memphis 1500s like the one i'm running will be perfect, search around. I got mine for $150! 1500@2 ohms 12v!
