JL 1000.1 amp problem.

hey guys. i just got a new system. this is the first JL amp ive ever had. its a great amp. i noticed today that after about 3 minutes of showing off the system the amp got hot. the thermal light didnt come on. it just got hot. my fosgate amp didnt get hot.

do all JL amps do that or is it a defect?

what do you mean?

ive heard of other JL amps doing this. a kid that i go to school with has a 12w7 and a 1000 watt JL Amp and it gets hot. i was just wandering if it was a thing for JL amps to get hot or just a deffect in some amps.

i didnt wire them. i didnt install it. i believe they are wired to where it gets 3 ohms. i dont know. im not an audio genius.

the guy that installed said something about the amp NOT being 1 ohm stable and that he could do something to get the subs at 3 ohms.

No, you're a noob. If it gets 3 ohms it shouldnt be getting real hot. Did you crank your amp settings?

im nkow im a noob. no i didnt. it just gets hot. hot enough to where you can touch it, but you cant lay your hand on it for very long. it should be alright.

no need to call names. He obviously is trying to learn this stuff and is young, help him out. It could be they way the subs are wired, a higher load then what the amp likes. where did you have it installed at?

well im sure they will back up their work, go back to them and ask them why the amp is hot, make sure that if something does go wrong you can fall back on them, they will have to replace it.
