Jeep Wrangler Rear Speaker Bar - No Sound

I just bought a 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, and the rear speaker bar has never worked for me. I replaced the stereo (wanted to upgrade anyway) and still no luck getting any sound at all from the rear speakers.

The wiring is all there as far as I can tell, and then some. The rear speaker wires are split (in the dash) into two standard speaker wires in addition to going into the plug that fits into the back of the stereo. I'm not sure what that's all about...

There's a light on the speaker bar that never seems to come on as well, so I wonder if there is a power adapter of fuse that is missing or something?

Any ideas on how else to troubleshoot the rear speaker bar would be great - I don't really know what else to try having inspected all of the wiring and so forth...

Thanks!

Yes there is a fuse which powers the light and speakers on the dash(in my yj) BUT it also may be that the wires are cut somewhere, OR the adapter plug is disconnected(like my YJ and my JK) which is usually connected closer to the speaker bar maybe on either sides and runs down the roll bars.

1.Check all your fuses, replace fuses

2.Check plug connecting speaker bar to dash

3.Check for cut wires.

Thanks guys, I will rewire the dash wiring and see if that helps, and maybe also replace the fuse that is missing to see if that's part of the problem. The wiring in the bar looks fine, and I can't see any cut wires at all between the two - I did visually inspect the whole run this afternoon and it looks fine.

My friend told me how to test speakers with a battery (attach the wires to the positive and negative terminals of a 9V battery and if you get a clicking sound from the speaker then the speaker is working) so I will do that as well - with that trick I should be able to test the connection from various locations in the dash and up the rollbars and see if the speakers are actually working at all.

He also said that if the sound bar was shot, the extra wiring spliced in the dashboard might have been for supplemental speakers that the previous owner removed from the jeep when they sold it. But I'll rewire that whole set of wires and remove the existing wiring and take that out of the mix.

So is it OK to put a fuse in the fusebox in a slot that is currently empty even if it's not wired to anything? I have no way of knowing if there ever was a fuse in that slot or not, but it appears to me that it might be related to the sound bar (it's labelled "additional wiring" or something like that). The box is labelled well so I know what voltage to use, so that shouldn't be a problem...

Thanks again!
