JBL BP600.1 and Y cables

i went to the local JBL authorized shop to go get my amp adjusted...

and as soon as i got there the first thing he did was stick two y cables onto my RCA

he told me that no matter how much i mess with the gain, it's not going to do much if i don't send the correct amount of signal into the amp...

so i said well the JBL amp is mono, so what is it going to matter whether you connect 2 RCA inputs or 4 RCA inputs...

well he showed me what happens...the bass is consistent THROUGHOUT the WHOLE volume range, no more of that disappearing base as soon as i turn the volume down, and now i can actually HEAR distortion in my woofers, as previously i couldnt hear it AT ALL

he told me that the JBL amps are the ONLY mono amp that he knows that needs all 4 RCA inputs to have signals directed to them, he said just using 2 inputs are sending 1/2 the signals that are required

i thought he was bsing out of his a$$ until he actually put the Y-cables in and showed me wrong...

was i tricked or is it true?

it shouldnt matter how many rca inputs there are because the amp is going to get the same amount of voltage regardless of how many rca's are going to it....thats what the gain is for...to match how much the amp signal draw to how much the h/u is sending.....also using a y adapter for an rca will not change the amount of input voltage sent to the amp it stays the same.....hope i didnt confuse your any...good luck

thas what i thought so too...

if you dont believe me go try it

the JBL amps need all of the rca's to have inputs...

and as far as the guy that works at Extreme audio knows...it's the only mono amp that requires this

I have the y cables on my amp right now and it makes a difference, its like night and day

if you dont believe me go try it

dude i used sub out

and the y cable made the world of difference

before the y cable...the amp wasnt even sending enough power to make the subs distort with gain maxed out

but now wit the y cable the amp can distort the subs at about half the way till max

not only that but the bass works from low volume to high volume

but before the y cable it only worked at high volumes

the dude at the store told me the JBL amps are the only ones that do this...if you dont believe me...try it

sounds like he managed to get more voltage from your deck to the amp. maybe the sub-out voltage from your deck is low? Maybe broken //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif lol

and why would there be no bass at low volume levels? sounds like he just made it louder

why do u want your subs to distort anyway? that's how u kill them and sound like and *******

the headunit subout is working fine and is 2.5v

the headunit is brand new

he didnt make anything louder...i readjusted the gain when i got home

and the only reason i talked about sub distortion is because i didnt have it before, so no matter how much i turned the gain up on the amp the sub was not reproducing nearly half the power the amp was capable of making

you cant get more voltage by using a y cable, the voltage in the line is going to stay the same...thats just physics

the only thing i can think of is that if perhaps the y cable doesnt separate the 2.5 v into two rca terminals, but sends a 2.5v to each one

so if it was using 2 rca terminals previously, then it would have sent 5 v total to the amp

but now that it uses 4 rca terminals it is sending 10 v total to the amp

im not sure...not very good with electricty

all i know is...sticking y cables on there made my amp work more better and efficently...

and im not going to complain about that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

so the guy split yur sub output witha y cable and ran the new 'dual' rca's to fill both of your inputs on your amp? hmmm.... i may try taht when i get my jbl 1200.1 that is if it isnt pushin my single 12 hard enuf mwhahahahahaha lol.

jk

I had a jbl 1200.1, and I listened for a while with 1 set of rcas going to it, then I ran another set, and it got like twice as loud, so yes it does make a difference. But I figured that you could just set the gain up high instead of adding the extra rcas. (but i'm not sure if that would have the same effect, I think it would) but I took out the rcas, because it was so loud I didn't want to blow my infinity perfects. If I had nice subs, I would go all out, but they are rated to take 350 rms, and I didn't want to push them that hard.

but yes it deffinetly makes a difference, but I think turning the gain up will do the same thing.

hehehehehe the JBL would be to push my ONE twelve lol.

1000 RMS rockford fosgate watts no less lol.

so i dontreally want to throw the fgain up too high, mebbe i'll try that RCA thing too hmmm thanks...

man on your bp600 how do you have the signal going to them? like one Rca splitter on Front and Rear left then another on Front and Rear Right? or.. Rear left/right and front left/right? hope that makes sense could you please tell me!

thanx

what i have right now is one rca from the headunit subwoofer out going down all the way to my trunk...

and then in the trunk...two strike rca y cables splitting the signal so i can insert it into all the four inputs on the amp
