JBL Amp - What happened?

I am was running a JBL 1201.1 GT amplifier. I beleive it was purchased back in the day through JBL Directly when circuit city still carried them. It was my managers- it sat in his basement for a few years, and I told him I had a ZS750.1, with a 9xx birthsheet. He said he knows someone that can use it, so I traded him the JBL amp for the kicker.

We had hooked it up, and I didn't have a 0ga dblock at the time, and no shops were open to get one. We used an ANL fuse holder for 0ga in and 4ga out. I was driving home that day bumping it, and it stopped playing.Fuse blew.

I went to the local shop today, and got a stinger dblock. I installed everything, and had my step-mom start the car while i made sure the amp turned on. I like doing that to be safe

Protect light/power light started flashing. I heard some pops, amp smoked..WTF happened? I really like this amp...Where can I get it fixed..Anyone have a use for a blown amp?

You smoked the amps power supply, you did something wrong...

make sure you didnt get the pos and neg cables too the amp backwards...that will make em smoke everytime and no fuse will save you

No sir..thanks for the tip, but.. The amp is properly installed. I verified by hooking up a ZX750.1 and it works fine.

Old amp. Some previous damage or a single component failing could cause a massive failure. Not necessarily something you could have avoided.

well, it blew the fuse, meaning something went out, and then you bypassed the fuse.... i would have installed another proper size fuse, and if it blew, then time for repair. i'd be interested in it, what do you want for it?

Theres a few guys that do it on the side here, but good luck trying to get them to work on it. maybe DB-R can help?

lol, yah, i know one guy who was willing to touch them with a 3' pole..... got swamped
