Right now I have 2 12" type R's. I feel bad powering them with a used legacy amp, so I want to replace it. Would the JBL 1200.1 be a good choice? Is this too much power?

If you set up the amp properly the Type R's will love it.

I powered my 2 Type R's with 1200 RMS and they were fine for the 4 months I did it. I really beat the hell out of them too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Just be sure that the gain on the amp isn't too high and you should be ok.

If your Type R's are in a ported box, you should watch out because that Amp doesnt have a subsonic filter. I think you can buy one but I am not sure. Otherwise you might want a different amp for ported.

If you need a subsonic filter, Harrison Labs FMODs are nice, although they aren't adjustable.

Or you could just get an amp with a built in subsonic filter, like the Visonik V900XD

The Type R's are in sealed boxes. Thanks for your help. I'll order the amp when I get paid.

The JBL was a very popular budget amp here a year or so ago. Now everyone has jumped on the Hifonics bandwagon.

jbl isn't that bad of an amp though, although i remmeber when i had mine a few yrs ago i upgraded to a v12 alpine and the difference was like "night & day"
