Thanks for the info!
The reason why I ask, is because I bought a used jbl from somoene, but I think it might have been faulty. When I connected it for the first time, the amp would not power up. I checked all connections, and everything was fine. I then checked the fuses. All three were blown (they did not blow when I connected the amp). (also note: the fuses were 30amp). I replaced the fuses (with 40a), then reconnected the power cables. As soon as the negative made contact, I heard a pop, then smoke started coming from the amp. I immediately disconnected it. I opened the amp case today to try to determine what failed. I think I might have found the 'blown' parts. These little black sqaures with three metal bars coming from them. They are under the 'heat sink' type of metal bar on the inside of both sides of the amp. In the image, I have removed one of these heatsinks. What are these black squares called?
Does anyone have an idea of what might have gone wrong?
