Ive come to think that im over excurting said woofer.

A quick answer would be yes, that could work. but if you are not in a great big hurry, I can throw your T/S para's in term pro when I get home, and see what I come up with ...

you say you are tuned at 32hz??

Before you take the given damping factor explanation to heart, read this article: Damping Factor: Effects On System Response The math is not very difficult in terms of audio science, and it's a very clear conclusion that damping factor does not create an audible "problem" until it gets down into the single digits.

I recommend you download WinISD Pro 0.50a7 and learn to use it. You can quickly find out what happens when you alter box dimensions, and it predicts excursion vs frequency and power.

Or you could do what I have done, and compare several different amps back to back and hear and see the difference for your self ....a quality amp with a good damping factor does make a difference in the real world.

OP, you have a PM ...

This. Your getting a lot of bad advice in this thread, including to stuff your box full of things to shrink airspace. If your happy with the overall response, it doesn't sound peaky and is simply moving to far on the lowest of lows, play a song that causes it at max volume and slowly turn up the SSF until excursion is under control. Shrinking your box down will do ALMOST the same thing (it'll stop the overexcursion) but it does it by making the woofer move less far on the same amount of power, aka reducing it's effeciency. It makes much more sense to keep the effeciency and simply lower thermal AND mechanical stress by setting the SSF properly in the first place.

SA's are nice woofers, they aren't the strongest motored sub in the world, a big box can be good for them, you just have to watch mechanical limits. Don't make this harder than it needs to be, dail up the SSF and call it a day.

I am assuming this was directed to me. I've done exactly what you said and I've heard differences with only changing a subwoofer amplifier. It's not damping factor that made me prefer one over the other, and no, I have not done this with only 2 amplifiers. This science stuff is not theoretical.

Not really at you. If it were, it would have included a quote. I'm not here to coddle anyone, nor do I really want to engage in arguments over anything either.

I was addressing your attempt to debunk my thoughts, and others findings, on the subject. But what I posted was for the general membership to view, and think about for themselves. Not just directed at you. As I said, I,ve done the real world testing, and with almost all claimed mfg specs being as close to the same as possible, with the exception of damping factors, there is a noticeable difference in subwoofer control,(both audible and visual) from cheaper very low factor amps, to good quality high factor amps. I could keep posting studies and claims to back me, and you can do the same to back your point of view. But instead , I say we just agree to disagree like gentlemen, and move on ... because all that bs really helps no one.
