What the article doesn't say is that because no new full auto machine guns can be made, there is a fixed number of them and increasing number of buyers. Limited supply x increasing demand = skyrocketing prices. Actually the supply is dwindling as some are destroyed over time due to wear or gov't.
"Cheap" machine guns like the Mac 10/11 start at about $4000-$5000. AR-15's/M16's start at about $10,000. HK MP5's are about $15,000 - $20,000.
And the mother of all machine guns; the .50 BMG M1/M2 can go for $50,000, without a tripod!
If you can afford one, they are a good investment because the value has been climbing quickly the last 20 years, and there is no end in sight.
This, of course, is assuming you live in a state where such beasts are legal.
