Isolator Question

hey guys i have a question about diode type islolators that i can't find anywhere...if i was to hook an isolator up to only my front battery, and hook my batteries in the back directly to the alternator, would the battery up front remain isolated from the ones in the back? it seems like they would but i am not sure and i can not find any single battery output isolators.

Thanks

I run a stinger 200 amp isolator. It only seperates the batteries when the ignition is off. When the car is running the batteries work together. I have it wired after my front battery before my fuse in the front, back to my other batteries, then to amps. The isolators do cause a slight voltage drop, about .3 to .5 volts in my car. You can find the isolator I have for about $55 shipped on ebay. Hope this helps you out.

my theory is that it wouldn't. power would be isolated to the front battery and it wouldn't be able to go to the back. the batteries in the back, however, would be hooked strait to the alternator and would get their full voltage. i just need somebody who would know if the batterys would still be isolated from eachother with this fasion of wiring.

Yes.. you are correct. Use the diode isolator for the front battery, but instead of hooking your back to the third terminal, connect them directly to the alternator. The only downside of this is that if your front battery goes bad, it will pull down your system batteries. So, this is not full isolation. It will only prevent your starting battery from being drained.
