You are comparing two subs with largely different surface areas, contrary to the 15 vs 15 implication. That is hardly a good comparison of excursion as it relates to output.
Just sayin.

They may have different surface areas, but the L7's still get pwned by other circular subs of near the same price range.

Ok, well let me change subs here. I just brought up the L7 because we were talking about L7s here.

IMO it's better to try the subs out in the real world that judging them off what a sheet of paper says. There's more to a sub than its cone area and xmax.

When going ported, the majority of the pressure comes from the port. So with that said, do you really think Xmax from the sub is the most important factor? Maybe what you should be trying to do is create a box with very good port speed (rounded off corners, flared ports, etc.)
