Is This too big for this sub? Good enclosure for sundown E12 or TNT12?

2 questions. First I have been talking with Cherrymancustoms (who makes great enclosures) about one for the X-15 I have. Now space of course isn't a problem as it's going in a tahoe. Now sense I want the best low end frequency response possible for decaf and slowed music we went with a very large enclosure design. Mainly due to the fact that the X-15 has a low frequency response we came up with a large enclosure around 6-10cubic feet. I know it's HUGE for a 15 but I want a 5-6" port to eliminate port noise and 24-30hz tuning so I needed a HUGE enclosure to meet the low tuning desires. Is this really too big? A lot of people are saying it's going to sound horrible and overwork or bottom out or whatever. I think it will hit the frequency I want with lower power louder and cleaner. Second question. What's recommended for either and Sundown E12 or AB TNT12 displacement with 500-600wattsrms? Looking for the best SQ so probably 32hz or so.

You've gotta give us a real measurement. "6-10" doesn't cut it. 6 minus all displacements is decent. We need to know your port sizes and if you're doing anything external.
I'm a newb so bare with me. Ok I came up with 34" width X 24" height X 30" Depth. No external Port included as of yet unless I can get a better frequency response with one I've never worked with external ports so I'm at a loss with them. 6" L Port is what I am looking for with a dual layered front baffle and internal bracing on the corners and across the center. Like I said I'm a serious newb too building enclosures so I'm unfortunately looking to someone for a few parameters I'm missing such as port displacement and port types. Like I said I'm looking for the best low end and up frequency response I can get with a single X-15" . I was going with a displacement or 6-10 cubic feet because I want really sure on what tuning would fit this sub best and for a lower tuning I needed a larger box with an 6" L port. Sorry if I'm unclear but again I'm a serious newb.

Subwoofer Enclosure Calculators, Parallel, Series, Port Length and Volume

Go to the box calculator, type in the dimensions you have, and start making them smaller in whatever direction you prefer for your vehicle, for example instead of 34 try 30 if that will still fit your needs. Some people would like to have space in certain directions, for groceries, boxes, etc. Do this until you have about 6 cubes. Then post what you came up with on here and we can go from there. You will need a double baffle on this box. These subs are monsters, my gf has the 12 in her Tacoma and it just eats everything alive. She has a double baffle, plus a round wooden ring under it for looks.

I'm not a professional, but I've built boxes for people. Always used aeroports when I did. I'd honestly recommend a square port. Tune lower than you want, and you can trim it from there. Always what I've seen done.

Sorry if I came across as pushy. I'm tired. I'm just trying to help a fellow basshead out. Glad you bought good equipment, and are learning from building your own box. I wouldn't even carpet\paint it until I was satisfied with how it played. What amp are you going to run?

It's all good. I really appreciate the help. I see what you mean but what do you mean by a Square port? Like a slot port? Only thing is at around 6-7cubic feet I can't go any lower than 32hz and I would like to do at least 30hz tuning or lower. Maybe I need an external port for this sort of tuning like an aero port? I'm basically trying to get a proper dimension to cherrymancustoms so it sounds the way I want it. I just want as much output as I can get from a single x-15. BTW I'm going to be using a Kicker CX1200.1 to "break" it in untill I have enough money for something like a SQ 2200.1.

No. A square port doesn't run along the side, its close to the center of one side. If you've ever seen a blow through 4th\6th order, that's what they use. It's basically a huge square port on the side of the box instead of a slot or a round hole. Have you decided where you want the space taken off?

Figured a new guy wanting to learn could learn a little along the way. Never heard a cherryman box, but have heard all good things about his work.

Well here's my final designs. Either I can do a simple L port with 45's and nice bracing and everything with the large 6-10 cubic foot for a low tuning or I could go with a nice 6"+ Aero port that's internal and external for the lower tuning with 6-7 cubic feet. I just can't decide on which would sound better. Do you think an Aero Port would be better for the lower tuning and less port noise at smaller 6-7 cubic feet. Or a larger 6-10 cubic foot enclosure so I can use a 6" L port? Maybe a different port design? I just want the best output I can get for the X-15 even if I have to use other peoples plans and disgns I'm willing because room is not an issue in the SUV I have I would care if it was all box and amps from the rear access doors the seats.

Just tell Cherryman your wants and he will make it right.

Not to sound like a broken record but what could I do with a square port? I have only ever had enclosures built with L Ports so maybe a diffrent port is really my answer for lower tuning and eliminated port noise. Also to get a tuning of 30hz or lower what size enclosure would I need? Cherrymancustoms himself and I came up with a 7-8 cubic foot enclosure with a good 24hz tuning or so for what I listen to. Does this sound like it will fit my subwoofer ok? I know he will do me right with the bracing and build quality I just want to make sure the port type and Port displacement for the enclosure is proper.

24hz is really low. I would do at least 30hz. Unless all your music is under 25hz. 35hz tuning will still play in the 20hz range fine with the X.

Sundown recommends 4.25 cubic foot net, 32hz tuning, and 68 in^2 of port area.

yeah you want it the proper size. Too Big might result in peaky response. Download winisd alpha and look at youtube tutorials on how to use it.

This is a much better enclosure calculator than the 12 volt website.

What kind of poet would you suggest? I've only had experience with the standard L port but what about a square port or an aero? Because I'm having trouble getting a lower tuning with the L Port.
