Is this pinch weld OK to "clearance"?

2005 Mustang GT - ~2.7ft3 box gross

Long story short, was a bit too optimistic with my measurements, and the box doesn't quite fit in the hole I want it to fit in.

My options are losing interior volume by cutting an inch or so off the box, or vertically cutting this pinch weld and bending it back up into itself. I only need to go to the bottom of the seat latch bracket or so..

What I am worried about, is of course the integrity of the car. I know one of the more popular additions to this car is bracing this area, but I don't race and I don't intend on starting.. Though I do drive like a ****, and it's all mountain roads here.View attachment 26536201View attachment 26536200View attachment 26536202View attachment 26536203

I took a jig saw and hammer to that shit atleast for my car on the far right and left corners we're rounded and I needed them 90degrees to fit my other box in, haven't noticed any issues to be honest.

I might be looking at the picture wrong but it also looks like the bottom of your box is contacting the inside of the spare tire well so cutting or folding that flange still doesn't look like your going to be able to come forward more, but from the pi it's hard to tell and also remember building a new box is an option but after that mod putting your car back to normal/factory is not!

Thanks for the replies.

It's sitting on top of the spare tire well, pic just makes it look worse.

Now to convince myself I'd rather cut into my car than lose a few tenths of of a cube of volume...

just remember you might not even like the way it sounds and will build another but your car will be butchered for the rest of it's life! I don't mind cutting up a car to make it work but I always cut up parts that are easily replaced your hacking body structure points that can't easily be fixed back.

Just trying to be that little voice of sanity telling you not to do it!

if beefing that area is so popular, why not do both. bend it up out of the way, and have some 1/8"x2" flat-bar welded on right above it for added strength? if you are real good with re-shaping the flange, it shouldn't hurt anything

Well playing around with WinISD really doesn't show any change by losing .18ft3 of volume.. So I'm just going to do that.

Actually, WinISD barely does anything with any changes, so who knows. Guess I'll take it as a learning experience if it *****. Maybe I can add a slot port somewhere and find a way to add more volume to it. Guess I'll see.

you can't say ***** on here? wtf? s u c ks s s s s.

Yea I chickened out and lopped 1.5" off the box. I did have to clearance about 3" of that pinch weld still, but it was an area without any spot welds, just extra steel.
