It's called inverted but I'm not really sure what it does to the output and/or sound quality. If it's for looks, I'm not liking it so much because the speaker wires look tacky like that.
It has two purposes, one is to show off the motor of the sub and the second is that it negates sub displacement in the equation for figuring out volume, which means that since the sub motor is not inside the box it doesnt take up air space
Totally done for looks in that case. They should have not worried about the inverted mounting and rather gone to the trouble of at least trying to match the factory color. The result as it sits there looks like a total abortion.
Mostly done for looks. Sometimes it looks good sometimes it doesnt. But it also does good when you dont have enough air space. You can invert the subwoofer. It gives you the displacement of the sub back. Then you may have enough airspace. But you have to remember to reverse the + and - on the amp. Or flip the 180 switch on the amp
