Is this Legal?

Its not legal unless it was expressly written in the contract/employee package she signed to start with. Its one of those things where there wont be goverment law saying it can happen, only house rules. And if the house rules arent written out in some type of signed agreement than her boss has nothing. And if she was fired for this its wrongfull dismissal which means she could sue. However all it would really take is a small mistake on your GF part and she could get shit canned

It will take her AT LEAST 2 hours to recoup that money.

But this is what I dont understand. They have 4-5 people walk out everyday just because of a 30+ min wait. So why is this a big deal?

I am not sure I was clear in what I was saying. It may be a violation of the minimum wage law if the deduction drops her average hourly rate below the minimum wage.

I am sure this is all acedemic, since I agree with everyone else that it is not worth it.

i agree with all you on the small amount thing. But I think they thing that pisses her off the most is just the fact that she is taking money out of her paycheck. Little amount this time, but what about next time? Thats kind of why im asking about the legality. Plus she just gets by right now, so $14 is a little more to her than most people.

It's $14...not like this is a very specialized position that the manager's going to have a hard time replacing.
I agree. And I am not a big fan of emloyees "thanking" their employers for giving them a job by pursuing a claim against them. I think the guy is just curious, or at least I hope so.
