Is this amp still worth using with new headunits? Ads, PQ20

i have been out of car audio for over 15 years.. i have a few old parts, a ADS pq20, an old 4x100 amp, and an old alpine 7 channel crossover.. I also have a pair of MB quart seperates, 5", 3 inch, but i need new tweets, and an old rockford fosgate pro 15.

I am getting a new car, 2008 pontiact g5, and i really would like to get a headunit that i can play MP3's, and preferably has a decent size storage that i can upload to, using a portable flash drive.

I know nothing about the new head units, and how compatiable they are with the old audio stuff i have. The speakers and amp and cross over i have where really nice back in the day, but just a quick look at head units and seeing 100 dollar price tags, makes me wonder how much has changed.

I always used to like alpine, so was thinking about something by them. I feel a bit overwhelmed right now, and could really use some help to go in the right directions. Was thinking about hitting up some car audio stores, but all the ones i used to goto are now closed.. perhaps some new ones have popped up to take their place.

perhaps some links to some helpfull sites, or places to read up on modern systems.. I'm also on a budget, so keep that in mind.. maybe have 500 to spend total..

i can help and sell you anything you need.you'll need to look at the media decks for what you want there is alot of nice equipment available now .most of the old school companies either are junk now , cost too much ,or out of business..what are you exactly looking for i may can steer you to the right places ,and even give you prices for some .

old school stuff is still pretty much compatible with all the new stuff, i ran boston acoustic rally series comps and ppji art series a404 with modern alpine 9887 (great sq hu), your equipment should work perfectly fine with the new stuff, as for tweeters hit up parts-express.com for some tweets. If you want a device that can use flash drives or ipods cables and aux cords that has good sq you cant go wrong with the pioneer 80prs, theres one on here being sold used that would be very nice to pick up. I would tell you to try an alpine 9887 and i have one for sale, but this unit doesnt have usb slots and just has an ipod cable or aux cable and not both at once. But pick up a new hu and some new tweets and run your setup again and see how you like it before you start buying newer stuff, alot of old school stuff is still very nice and still compatible, good luck in your quest //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah the media head units is where its at from your standpoint. Downside, they don't have a cd player. But it doesn't sound like you need one anyways.

Media head units are cheap as **** because there are no moving parts, and mostly run on the Android software program (mainly becuase its easy as hell to develop for)

Alpine makes a nice one.

Is the ADS in good condition ? pics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

thanks for all the replys

ok.. so a media head unit? so that is what they are called //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I wonder if there are ones that have a CD+ media? can you add storage space as well? Or maybe you can swap removeable drives or something?

i have about 200 disks, so wouldn't mind getting a good amount of music. I honestly never used mp3, i don't have a player, and i havent had a car in years. Just listen in my home on a cd player.

I just picked up the car today, and now i have to dig out my old stuff. As for condition, the speakers are only about a year of use.. the amp about the same. the 7 channel EQ, is closer to 3 years use.. but all in all, it is in very good condition.. Basically like right out of the box condition.

When i dig out the stuff later in the week i will see if i can post a link to some pics for ya. maybe you will enjoy some pics of a vintange amp.. :p (i guess i'm getting old heh)

I got a great deal on the amp back in the day.. It was orginally like 800-900 bucks, but it was a store going outta business sale, and i picked it up for like 350 or 400 brand new around 95 but i didn't install it for a few years.

then i finally installed it, but it was in a car for less than a year and the car got wrecked, and i pulled out the amp, and it has been sitting in a box in my basement since about 98..

also i have a very large 15 inch sub, that had great sound, But i'm not sure if i really want to take up my entire trunk. are there new speakers that can give that great deep base sound, but not take up all that room? I remember back in the day there was something called a bazooka tube, but they didn't sound all that tight from what i recall.

I listen to a wide varreity of music, but mainly jam band rock and roll, but a little pop from time to time.

I think my main thing, is i need to find some tweeters that will match my MB quart speakers.. (not sure if quart is still around) then the head unit, and get the stuff installed.. i used to do my own, but i got hurt a while back and can't do alot of it now.. i remember boston acustic was another good one back then, and also infinity made some nice stuff. I just want the system to sound nice.. clear, clean, and a little boom if i crank it up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
