is this a good amp?

Is it a good amp? Yes.

Is it the amp for you? I don't know. Not particularly if you are running the 2Ohm Type R. That amp is not 1Ohm stable and if you wire the sub parallel with the 1222D, your amp won't like it. If you're set on 1 Type R and that amp, go with the SWR-1242D.

Hope that made sense. I does in my head...

ummmm, im new to car audio so i dont really know what amplified means but they are just connected to the stereo

doors the car is a jeep wrangleragain not to sure what deadened means (but they have everything on them, not torn apart)
By deadened he is referring to a product such as Dynamat. By amplified he is referring to using an external amplifier to make your speakers play louder. For example, your radio will put out anywhere from 18-25 watts RMS to each speaker. An external amp will put out anywhere from 45 watts RMS and up to each speaker. This translates to clearer sound at louder volumes. Basically if your subwoofer overpowers your door speakers, you may want to think about an external amp. The only problem... Your current speakers won't handle an external amp for very long.

The alpine m500 will do just no room for upgrading

Yes, the MB Quart is class a/b, but he'll only be running it at a 2 ohms for the time being. That's not going to be too taxing on his electrical system. And to be fair, I did say he'll have to look into electrical upgrades when/if he decides to step up to a pair of subs. But even then, the upgrades will not be significant. The big 3 and a small secondary battery would most likely do the trick.

The Discus series amps are enjoying forum boner status right now for a reason. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I don't see a problem with a type R and your speakers as is. I've run 2 type R's without amping my speakers. I thought it was fine. I just didn't turn the sub up too loud.

If you've already budgeted for the MRP-M500 and the Type R, then go for it. It will sound fine.

It's really easy to get overwhelmed with car audio when everyone throws links at you recommending this sub and that amp etc. If you are new to this car audio thing, you don't need to worry about specific details as much.

Actually you can listen to it. The only thing you need to worry about is matching your sub to your amp. Make sure your RMS matches and you pick the right enclosure. There are thousands of car audio manufacturers out there and it doesn't help when people bombard you with them.

You asked a simple, straight forward question which nobody answered. Instead the beat around the question and confused the hell out of you.

Now ask yourself this... How far do you want to follow the rabbit down the hole? In other words, how involved do you want to get? Do you want something that is simple and sounds good or do

you want to go all out, have a custom box made, fiberglass your whole ride and spend ALOT of money? Well if you chose the first option, a type r is great. So is that amp.

There's always someone on a forum that just loves confrontation. Well that confrontation hurts newcomers

to car audio and to any forum really.

How about you guys actually help instead of confuse?

I guess I'm going to take this the wrong way too.

So, the OP doesn't need to know a thing about impedance or alternative companies that he may not be aware of? You also need to know that matching rms means not-a-damn-thing. People can, and often do, feed a subwoofer WAY more than it's rated power. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Wrong. His initial question was answered. He was told that the Alpine amp would power a single Type R just fine. Then he was told about a different amp that would deliver twice the power and fit his budget perfectly.

Now ask yourself this... How far do you want to follow the rabbit down the hole? In other words, how involved do you want to get? I don't recall a single person in this thread mentioning fibergalass work until just now. I'd also like to add that I see no problem with the Type R. The MRP-M500 is a different area entirely, though. Why purchase something that gives you zero possibilites for future upgrades? Any person with true experience in car audio will tell you that catching the upgrade bug is highly likely.

There's always someone on a forum that just loves confrontation. Well that confrontation hurts newcomersto car audio and to any forum really.
The only confrontation in this thread was caused by your bad advice and the fact that you decided to make this post that I'm now dissecting. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

How about you keep your horrible advice to yourself?

Wow. That was a lot of bs. Nice job.

I never said he didn't need to worry about impedence.

He's BRAND NEW. He doesn't need to put more than RMS to anything.

Who cares if anyone mentioned fiberglass. I was asking him a question.

Nothing I said was wrong. As someone brand new to car audio, it's likely he may never want to upgrade. So quit assuming. Yeah I upgraded eventually but I bought new equipment anyway because my taste changed. Besides HE HAS A BUDGET! As he said, he doesn't want to spend too much.

My post you're dissecting? Doing a shit job of it. You have nothing to dissect.

Right now he needs to know the basics. Then he can slowly move up.

There has to be some kind of joke going on in this thread, because there's no way your posts are serious. And for the record, the OP must've liked what I had to say, because he thanked about 4 of my posts in this thread. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

And I'll stand behind my original recommendation. The DSC1000.1 is the right amp for the OP. It fits his budget, it'll power a single dual 4 ohm Type R perfectly and he can add another Type R at any point in the future should he decide to. For the money involved, he'd be hard pressed to do better. If you don't think those things make the DSC more desireable to the OP than the MRP-M500, you clearly have problems.

And please learn how to use the quote function, newbie. It'll keep you from looking like a total jackass when trying to make several retorts within a single post. Learning to choose your battles a little more carefully would be beneficial as well...
