Is the Pioneer AVX-P8DVD standalone?

Is this unit standalone? Its Pioneer Premiere but it doesnt come with a radio unit or an equalizer. What would be a good companion for this? Would I just need an equalizer?

Pioneer recommends it be used with the Pioneer 8MP or something like that if I remember correctly.

Does it have to be? If I dont care about radio...would I really need it? It has its own signal processor correct?

It looks like it needs to be with a headunit. It seems to be an add on unit.
