Is the juice really worth the squeez

*You're the idiot. I agree that Rockford is overpriced. Usually, the questions that don't get answered are the common ones with thousands of threads. The search function on the internet is there for a reason...
Do you really think that two MTX t812/22's will be better than a pair of DC 4XL's on a 5K? You aren't helping the OP. If he wants the most out of his system, which I believe he does, upgrading to the DC's is a good option. Boomtaco64, you are ignorant....
It's not even worth the arguement with him.

reading his post about wanting more...yes it would benefit him. adding a sub and doubling the power will give huge gains and not cost $800+... the two different systems are totally different...2-12" subs on 1200w or 2-monster 12" subs on 5kw of power. polar opposites.....he was wanting a little more so i gave my perspective.

what you are saying to do is exactly what everyone says. just replace ALL of it. thats the ONLY way to get it done.... which is false. it all depends on what he wants. i am just giving my opinion.

Yes, just adding another MTX 12 would benifit him. I'm not saying redo the whole system, but subs and amps tend to go together. I don't remember reading what kind of amp he had (I may have missed it). Depending on what it is, he may have to upgrade it or buy another one anyways. He said money wasn't an issue. That's why I suggested the DC's. I'm just giving my opinion too. I went through multiple mainstream sub/amp setups. I got tired of upgrading, so I saved up and went big. I would rather get a big system and not have to mess with it for a while, than a small system and want more sooner. That's all I'm saying.

So, BoomTaco giving more horrible advice. Big surprise. Because encouraging someone to waste $250 on a subpar subwoofer is a good idea.

To the guy who started this thread - I suggest paying no attention to BoomTaco and listening to people who actually know what they're talking about.

Now, could you tell us what your goals are with this system? Do you want to be a little louder? Do you want to be a LOT louder? How much space are you willing to give up? Do you already have an amp, or are you looking to replace it too?

The single t812-22 is 4ohms at 600wIt's In a 2cubed box tuned to 32hz. In my jeep I think it sounds **** good I'm still just wanting a little more.

My main complaints is it doesn't hit higher notes like a 10 and the lows are week not on a complete songs but sometimes I think there more like 28-23hz soo I'm not really knocking it for that. But it is a little sloppier when listening to Metallica but sounds awesome on Mumford and sons and lil Wayne. There isn't a wide band of bass frequencies though it's defiantly clear listening to a sweep where it likes and where it *****

This is my first 12. I'm 34 no and I'm not trying to compete. I'm deaf. I was blown up in Iraq and lost all hearing. As well as puncturing a lung and now havering a plastic knee cap. And a traumatic brain injury. .......nof bad crud......I can hear loud bass! It makes me hear music again. And my 12 gives me almost that so i want more. Like I said I'm not a teen money isn't an issue. I want to hear. I have 6cubic feet and if. Forced could go 7 but I'm pretty set on 2 12's on a lot of power......and maybe I'll be jamming again
57hemi, first and foremost, thank you for your service. I too, wore the uniform for about 12yrs, was blessed to have never seen combat though. As stated before, there will be some on here that will tell you that all your gear is junk, and that you need to buy xyz's amp, or abc's subs. What's most important right now is; do YOU enjoy your set-up? sounds to me like you do. I would say stick to what you like, as long as you like how your mtx sounds. I pray for your healing, and that you can enjoy this addictive stuff like the rest of us do, regardless who's stuff you decide to install, peace.

So you resort to bashing my product which you have ZERO experience with, nice one.

There are a lot better options for the same money than what he proposed. He asked if it would be better to replace the MTX. It would be. And I truly hope you're done with this thread, we don't need any more misguided newbies than we already have

Thank you^^^

To the original OP, sorry this got out of hand

Listen. I'm deaf (mostly) at very loud volumes I can hear...... That's all I want to hear. And if I go though and wire and buy all the amps and wood and fiberglass and paint and alternator and what not just to be disappointed it's really not worth the 5or6 grand I sunk into it. So I'm hesitant to go forward, when all I've ever been with subs was disappointed and wanted more. Weather it wasn't fast enough or low enough or go high enough or muddy on rock. So can you understand why I haven't bought them yet

My advice is to buy used from a good seller. It won't cost NEAR 5 or 6 grand! I got a true 3.5k amp and a bnib Sundown X10 for exactly $500. I bought both on this forum

Thats mainly remedied by the enclosure design more then anything else in the setup. Have a professional design your enclosure and tell them exactly what you want out of it. Sounds to me, you just need one good beefy woofer in a properly designed T-line that will reach lows, highs and keep up with the speed. Wont have to do much in electrical upgrades because of the efficiency of the enclosure giving more output on less power.

The thing with the human body is, we adapt, what is loud the first week, will be quiet as hell the next week. Chest pounding, hard to breathe bass becomes nothing other then regular music, you'll lose that sensation sooner or later and will always want more. Thats the **** thing about this hobby, you always want more because of your body's natural adaptation. I pick up a 10 year old that was struggling to survive his first time inside my car, then eventually it doesnt even affect him, nowadays he says can't you turn up it louder?

People get used to 160 db systems, they are happy with it but they will always attempt to go a little louder if possible.

OP, you mentioned that you feel like splurging. If so i would go wth the direction you're thinking about and get two 12's and dc 5k. You said you're already kind of happy with it so the upgrade will definitely make you happier. I can almost guarantee my old set up of a mtx 6500d and 12L7 is louder than what you have now and i upgraded later to 2 15's and 1500 watts and i was blown away by how much difference it made. So going from one 12 and 600 wannts to two 12's and 5000k watts, theres no question you will be blown away, as long as it's installed correctly. So i say splurge and get the better eqipment, you won't regret it. IF you get another 12 mtx you may not be satisfied. There's a big difference from 1200 watts and two 12's and 5000 watts and two 12's
