Is rear view mirror falling off a common problem?

Hi all,

I was wondering if bass causing the rear view to fall off is fairly common, I'm assuming it is.

I have never had a problem with it before but I got a 2008 Cadillac DTS and the mirror is quite heavy. I'm only running 500w @ 2 ohms but the car transfers force to the windshield pretty efficiently and it only took about a month after I put the subs in for the button to come off with a chunk of glass attached to it. It also has the auto dimming headlight fuctionality built into it so I didn't want to drive without it. I have been experimenting with a new mounting method before I get a new windshield because I am pretty confident it would keep happening. I think i came up with a method that will pretty much outlast any glue or epoxy and will withstand the bass. I just started testing the second version at the beginning of this week and I am in MN so i will be finding out how it holds up in the cold and hot extremes. I am about 90 to 95 percent confident that it will pass my testing.

I want to know what you guys think. Would there be any sort of demand for this type of solution.

I feel like rubber cement would do great not only keeping the mirror stuck there but also absorb some flexing with the compound itself.. I think it dries up clear with no color too if that's an issue

I have it fixed, I came up with a way to screw it to the glass.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif I am wondering if it is a common enough problem that it would be worth filing for a patent.

I could post a pic.

Been driving without a rearview mirror for a while. Tried rubber cement, that rearview mirror kit they sell at autozone and some glass to metal epoxy. All 3 times, I waited a week before bumping and when bumped again, the fker fell off within hours. Pretty **** out of luck on my end, even have my roof braced with 1/2 ply.

There would be a small demand, doubt it would be worth your while to patent it unless you find other applications for it. Unless you're doing something extremely exotic it will more than likely be copied.

Honestly if you want a mirror I could make one for you, and see if it works. It would be interesting to see if it holds up with a crazy system compared to what I have.

I used plexiglass and an aluminum insert taped to the window. Then you can screw the button to that. The surface area of the crazy strong tape is way better than one little spot of glue. My windshield is nice because it as a black coating towards the top that comes down in the middle to cover up the tape from the outside but I believe they make a clear version of the tape as well.

The shape of the plastic is totaly customizable, I used smoke plexiglass. First one I made so its a little rough. If you really wanted to you could put led accent lighting in it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif

After thought, unless there would be some application in the actual car manufacturers, it wouldn't be worth the money for a patent. So... Open source it is. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If your idea really works, throw a few thousand watts to your current system and if it can hold up, then I'll be your first customer.
Just get a wink mirror man. Mounts into the visor brackets on each side. But I've been in that van and I don't think anything will really help lol.

You have clearly never heard of 3M VHB tape. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

made specifically for smooth surfaces.

Cant say that I have, that video where its connecting two surfaces and having a tug of war with two trucks looks ridiculously nuts.

Ya I saw that one too, that's just terrible marketing. I use the stuff at work though and it is pretty crazy stuff for certain applications.

Garbage mirror for sure. Had one back in the day and it rattled really bad. Was just thinking about the legal end.QUOTE=Jeffdachef;8649283]yeah its built like a POS structurally.
