is my amp too weak??

Hi everyone,

I bought Dual 10" bandpass subwoofers (two subwoofers inside the subwoofer box) and i got a Dual 460W 2 channel amplifier for free. This was a thanxgiving sale special at BestBuy. But after some research I realized that my amp maybe too weak to drive the subwoofers. Here are the spec...

For the Amp... 115x2 Watts (RMS)

For the Sub... 250x2 Watts (RMS) with sensitivity of 94dB.

I understand that the maximum wattage that the sub can handle is 250 Watts for each channel. But is there a minimum? In other words, will the amp that can only supply up to 115 Watts be able to get good sound from the subwoofer with 250W spec? Is the difference between the two too much?

Should I just return the units? Or go on with the installation.

I just want good deal for my money. So what should I do?

Return everything immediately and thank God you found this site on time. Then come back with a price range you have for the setup and we can work from there.
Yes I have to second this as well. Take it back, get your money, and come tell us how much you have to play with and well build you something that will hit 10x harder than those things, and sound 30x better than that bandpass box.

But do you guys think the amp is too weak for the subs? I know that I can always bridge the amp and drive only one sub but I don't really wanna do that too. I wanna use both the subs. Will it work? Or will I blow out the amp eventually.

Can you find out the voice coil setup and impedance of your subs? Sounds like a cheap amp, but if you can bridge it at 4 ohms, you could power both subs off 1 channel and probably get more power to them (all depending on subs/amp).

The sub is single voice coil and has 4ohms impedance. The spec for the amp is

230W RMS (continuous) x 1 @ 4 ohms, bridged; 460W peak power @ 4 ohms, bridged

115W RMS (continuous) x 2 @ 2 ohms; 85W RMS (continuous) x 2 @ 4 ohms

Tri-mode capability allows you to simultaneously run 2 channels of full-range sound and a subwoofer

so it actually will supply only 85W rms at most to my subs...

The sub has the maximum rating of 250Wrms per channel. But I can't seem to find the minimum rating (the minimum needed to drive the subs) ... Will 85W be enough?
