Is it possible?

Is it possible to take a 1800W@ 1 Ohm class A/B mono amp and only supply a total of 1400W to my subs(700 each)? If so, can you please explain how this is done so that I am confident in buying this amp and not blowing my subs rated at 700 RMS a piece. The reason I would be buying something like this is for the deal I am getting plus the always pleasant option of upgrading!

probably not.
Oh, really? Care to explain to me why I didn't blow my subwoofer that was rated to handle 300 watts RMS when I powering it with an amp that produced over 900 watts RMS then?

The sub in question was a Digital Designs dd1010 and the amp in question was a 25 to Life Punch 150. Hell, I am using that same amp to power a single dd1508 that is only rated to handle 500 watts RMS. In that same vehicle I am powering my door speakers rated to handle 100 watts RMS with 280 watts RMS PER component set.

To me, power is like money in the bank, you can never have too much!

This is the amp I am looking at getting. I personally know someone who sells this line in another state and have heard good things from him so I decided I would give it a go.

Amp: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-1800-WATT-HUGE-POWER-MONO-CAR-STEREO-AMPLIFIER-AMP_W0QQitemZ350217595556QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Amplifiers?hash=item518a986aa4&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

My subs are 2 Audiobahn AW1200 High Excursion 4 Ohm Dual Voice Coils. They are each rated to hold 700 RMS and 1400 peak power.

So in your opinions.. Is this a safe bet to put this amp to these speakers with the gains set right? How would I properly be able to tell that the amp is only putting out 1400W @ 1 ohm? And what gauge wire would you also suggest to go from my amp to the jacks on the back of my box and from the jacks to the subs inside the box??

Thanks for all of your help!

You're overcomplicating things. Just use some common sense when setting your gains, man. Turn your headunit to a reasonable volume (loud, but not full tilt), and use your ears. If that's not a good enough answer, you'll need to buy an o-scope.

Seriously, you don't have to give your subs the EXACT power they're rated for. You shouldn't throw 2 or 3 times more than rated at them unless you know exactly what you're doing, but as long as the power is clean and within reason the subs will be fine. Just don't max out the gain and bass boost on the amplifier.

I'm not so sure your subs can handle 700 watts continuously anyway, and I don't know if that Quantum Audio amplfier will do rated power. There are a lot of variables to take into consideration here...

I see! So a little under 3/4 on the gain would be somewhat close to the 1400W range.. And I have never gotten my volume over half because it just gets loud so blasting them at a huge volume level is not really a problem for me. They are run pretty reasonable so I'm sure if I put 700 to each of them they would do fine. Not looking for competitions here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif. Any suggestions on the wiring mentioned?

if ur gonna buy quantum. go for the bigger amps. just spend a lil extra money and get a bigger amp. the are relatively cheap man. my cuz bought a quantum cozmik series qca4000d and it was like 200 or somthing. really cheap

that amp is whack, buy my fusion amp instead //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

and those subs are more like 500wrms. I've had a pair, they get loud and sound sloppy doing it.
