Hey Guys,
Question, is it possible to blow comps that are 180 RMS with an amp that is only 150x2 RMS?
Here is an email I sent cdt and response:
I purchased the following equipment from one of your distributors:
Comps: CDT HD-62 (w/ 540 Satnet)
Rearfill: CDT CL-6X
The first problem occured about a month ago. The rear driver's side coax sounded horrible. Like something was wrong with the cone. Very distorted. I couldn't of damaged it because I am only powering it of the HU. The passanger side coax sounds perfect.
Last week, front passanger side comp went out. I was listening to music when I heard a sizzle and then no music came from that side. My amp couldn't of blown it because it sending less watts then the comps RMS. I have a Soundstream Van Gogh 600.2 which is 150x2@ 4 ohm. And it's not at full tilt.
I had an authorized dealer look at my comp on Saturday and they tested the Satnet-540 and they informed me that the input seemed to be fried and said when it fried it could have blown the mid. When you pushed the mid cone in it didn't pop or come back out. However, the tweeter seemed to be working fine.
Attached is a copy of the receipt. Your Distributor informed me to contact you directly regarding the warranty.
Can this be covered under warranty? Can you please help or direct me to the correct person to speak with?
RESPONSE:
This is normally not a warranty matter as the xover and speaker is blown due
to in proper amp gain.
Call 1877-568-3238 for RA #
We'll fix it this time but not next.
See attached info for proper gain setting
