Is it dangerous to have an amp mounted like this?

Hey guys, i just turned 18 ang got my self a 1992 S13 Nissan silvia Q. As i have limited space to play with in the boot, i mounted the amp on it's side against the rear of the back seats, you can see the pics at:

the amp puts out 100 wrms into 4 channels, currently i only have 2 channels running powering the rear speakers. After 30 mins of heavy listening the amp gets extremely hot, although the thermal protection never kicks in. My question is, is it safe to run an amp like this? Is it normal for an amp to run hot to the touch?

if its getting near the boiling point where its gonna be shut down or get into protect mode, consider lowering the gains/level down a little.

Looks good to me. I have mounted amps on the back of the rear seats and had no issues with overheating.

I've had my component amp mounted like that for over 2 years now. It's fine.

I had my amp mounted like that when i had my 240sx and it was fine, i even had a box in front of it, worked fine until it got stolen.

I had my last 2 amps like that and they would get really hot, really fast.

thanks for all the input guys, i'll see how it goes. It will be interesting to see how much hotter it gets when i get a sub going. Are there any easy ways to cool amps? I was thinking of attaching a couple of computer fans on it, and running them off the relay which switches on with the remote wire (see pictures).

12 volt fans will work, but just having them blow on the amp as it is will be highly inefficient and probably won't do much cooling. I would put a load on the amp and see actually how hot it gets. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It probably still works fine, just in some other dickhead's car!
