Is DB Drag dead?

lol... the day we found out it was in tulsa i gave up on my db drag season even though i had already paid for my membership. i still went to shows to have a great time but gave up on trying to win. i just started throwing random stereos in vehicles and going.

Here is my opinion/rant -

IMO they should host finals at the SVR site in WV... Pretty central for 95% of the active DB Drag competitors, it would get a huge showing for finals no question about it just because of location alone. If an agreement can't be reached there, then possibly a NE location in PA would work also.

I just think that in these hard times it was without question the worst possible time for Wayne to have finals at such an off beat location. Hopefully over the next year or two our sport as we know it can be resurrected and at least be brought back to a small amount of how it used to be.

With the lack of sponsorships(full ones are out of the question) and the prices of equipment to be at all competitive its making it harder for new competitors to wanna get in the game. I think entry costs need to be lowered and Wayne needs to get his head right and realize where the money he's earning really started coming from.

DB Drag needs to continue its support of music oriented competitors(like bassrace) and maybe throw in a few new classes(systems that can do a 49.9 bassrace are drastically louder/more expensive than 39.9 bassracers). Also IMO DB Drag needs to find a way to cater itself to new and seasoned competitors alike.

Granted it will never be like it once was, plain and simple. There won't be cash prizes or big time sponsorships(even Kicker finally dropped all their great competitors) anymore and i highly doubt it will ever come back to that.

Poor promotions by all SPL organizations are making things go down. No one is fired up anymore to compete because no one even hears about it anymore.

I've not once heard a Tv, Radio, or Internet advertising by any SPL competition organization, weather it be MECA, DB Drag, USACi, or whatever other flavors that are out there this week. They just "expect" new members to join or some shit. Poor marketing IMO.

Sam was the driving force behind DB Drag and was insturmental in the formation of bassrace! He kept it alive. When he left there wasn't any dedication left to the sport.Wayne has stepped out long ago and is focused on bigger things. He doesn't care what the competitors want the ones who make it happen. He cares about the bottom dollar, and those dollars are falling.Big companies no longer promote or sponcer like they used to in the sport.I remember packed events back in the early 00's.Now you barely get 3 booths and they just have stickers to hand out.

The sport lives on in little pockets of the country were the dedicated attend regularly and support the local scene to keep things alive.

Maybe we can get someone running things who has the fire that Wayne had when he first started this idea. Then we can get back to the glory days of old with huge events and hundreds of cars:D

The only one that was near me was Taylor, MI and that was 45 min away
All I can say is WOW ...... if you can't drive 45 min to a comp, you are definitely in the wrong sport/hobby. I guess everyone expects to have 5 or 6 comps within 5 mins of their doorstep every year. No wonder it's drying up. I went to like 8-10 comps this year and the CLOSEST one was a 30-40 min drive (one way). The only other option is to find out how to get your shops to hold a show and then SUPPORT it.

Are recent and rare post by Wayne on TP......

This topic is premature. I don't want to see anything right now that could dampen the enthusiasm for those competitors who WILL be attending the Finals.

We understand that the location for Finals this year has created a hardship for many competitors. The current economic situation has been extremely difficult for many companies as well. Our decision this year to co-locate was simple... Do we have a Finals or not? Sharing the costs for the event made the event possible.

This issue has nothing to do with Canada or any other geographic location. Please remember, I was the one who wanted to "bring the Finals" to the competitors. That is basis for the multi-venue Finals.

We are working hard right now to provide the best Finals we can offer with the realities that exist. I would expect everyone who has an interest in the continued existence of dB Drag Racing to understand this and support us in our efforts. Maybe the economic climate next year will be better. Maybe we should consider eliminating the Finals altogether. These are topics that can be discussed at a later date. Right now, do your part and help us create an environment conducive to excitement for those who will be attending the WF.

Thanks!

He wants US to support him!

Amen, got to be willing to go a ways. Last weekend I went a bit past chicago for the caco competition, 6.5+ hour drive (started driving at 2am to get there) and it was a good time
