Is capacitor required with 500/1?

No, a cap is not required for that amp. Depending on the amp, most will have a current limiting capacitor built into the amp therefore an additional capacitor is not needed. Either way for a 500 watt mono you will be fine. However, capacitors are the best choice to solve dimming or any other voltage issue dealing with a single channel amp. "Capacitors are crap" if installed incorrectly I agree, seek help with your next install if you arent getting any better performance with a cap.
lol

no

Caps are for the ghey

I'm honestly wondering what an incorrect and correct way way of wiring a cap would be? Not many options. Only I could think of are wire distances from battery and amp.

Either way, caps do so little it's pointless. Big-3 anyday of the week over cap.

I've been running over 2000 watts for a long time on stock alternator and an Optima Redtop battery in my Ford Explorer with a crapload of other electronics and no capacitor. I do have the big 3.

I'll be upping that to almost 3000 very soon.

Yes, my lights dim a little. Yes, my voltage drops a little. It's held up rather well though.

I'll never have a cap in this system. I do plan on upgrading the alternator before long. Not sure about extra batteries.

noob...

JL 500/1 Class D . Super regulated power supply. Consistent unwavering output @ 11 to 15 volts. Some people like to knock this amp due to efficiency ratings but that's the trade off for that rock solid unwavering output at varying voltages from 11 up. I love JL slash series amps just for that reason. My guess is no need for a cap unless you already got it, but then again I put my 5 Farad PA cap on my PPI PC250 (not that it needs it but i like the bling and voltage meter on it) not on my 500/1 as it would not benefit much from it. I wouldn't put a cap that amp either. Big 3 all the way that's good advice.
