Is capacitor required with 500/1?

I THINK A capacitor is a bad ideal to begin with, what about a small kinetik HC600. you can get one on ebay for under $100, about the same as a 1-2 farad cap. or a small batcap...

but, first you should hook it up. you might not even need one. all depends on your car.

Capacitors work if needed, but if your not having problems with your lights dimming or the power meter on your instrument panel moving back and forth with the bass then you should be fine. If it's moving a lot then you could look into possibly adding a capacitor. If you are going to do that though, decide if you are going to add any more amps and buy the cap to accommodate your future install as well.

Hi,
I am installing JL Audio's amplifier 500/1 and 8 inch W-7 in my Honda Accord. Do I need to install capactior as well so that the battery doesn't drain out?

Thank You.
Im running ~1000 rms in my accord (2000 2.3L) without extra batterys and without the big 3 and i dont have any dimming...

Dont get a capacitor, if you have dimming start with the big 3, its cheaper and prolly more effictive

for the same price of a capacitor you could get an extra battery or an HO alt, and form uch cheaper you could do the big 3. All of which are much more effective than a capacitor will ever be.

But on 500 watts you should install it first and see if it's even necessary off of a stock battery a lot of people have no voltage problems at all with up to even 1000 watts, however I've never personally seen any one run that much off of a stock battery.

No, a cap is not required for that amp. Depending on the amp, most will have a current limiting capacitor built into the amp therefore an additional capacitor is not needed. Either way for a 500 watt mono you will be fine. However, capacitors are the best choice to solve dimming or any other voltage issue dealing with a single channel amp. "Capacitors are crap" if installed incorrectly I agree, seek help with your next install if you arent getting any better performance with a cap.

ive tried a cap and saw NO differance. do the big 3, lots of info on that in the forums. with 500w you shouldnt need anything.

if you want to throw away money for a cap, just give me the money. itll do the same thing for your car. nothing

You are going to need at least 5 farads for that. I would look at audiobahn only. Should add about 3 DB's as well.

Also, try using the //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/search.gif.e79a63b2b580b39b282dff402646b704.gif function as it adds at least 3 points to your IQ.

:meh:

All jokes aside. Do the Big-3 (again search if you don't know what that means) and you will see far better results than a cap. Also, just an upgraded battery would work for that system. Not a big current hog.
