Is an 8" Subwoofer Right for Me?

I'm planning a sysem for my 2001 Pathfinder.

I want quality above all else. I'm going to use Diamond Hex components and either Diamond Audio or JL Slash amps.

I just don't like a TON of bass - I want extremely tight, musical and accurate bass, and I don't want it to overpower the music or shake my whole car. I'm even thinking of going without a sub, but I know the components will miss those lower frequencies.

SO, I'm thinking of going with a JL 8W7 - what does everybody think about this given my situation? Will this sub work well for what I want? Thanks guys! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

the sub diameter doesnt really matter. What I mean is 12's , 10's, 8's can all produce tight base..

I think a NICE 10" sq woofer is what you need.. I've heard 8's and I prefer the tad more kick 10's can give.

why go with the minimum and no room when you can go with a 10 with room for tweaking. thats my theory

OH, and wahts your budget.

12s man. Just get a 12. SI D2 sealed. ID V3 Sealed. W6v2 Sealed. I think its important to have the low end also plus its not too hard for a sub to get some kick in it especially if its a sq sub.

Diamond CM310" would work , Diamond makes excellent amps as well,I would avoid the 8" sub idea, most are dissapointing imo - as far as tightness size really doesnt determain tightness - I prefer 12s and they are tight as a rats azz - HEX comps work well but are power hogs,be prepared to buy more amp than you expected, you might aught to look into the D6 comps, which are less power hungry and sound awsome

Perhaps a Diamond D6600.4 with a D3D4 10" sub and them D6 comps that will give you 75x2 on the comps and 300x1 on the sub that amp is way underrated and will give off alot more power than advertised -

I was going to try to give the Hex's at least 100W per channel. I think that should be enough.

Anybody have any experience with the Diamond D9 subwoofers? I'm not sure if they are more of a SQL or SPL woofer? I can't really find any information on them.
