Is a 6 Farad capacitor too big?

So I don't know how I came across this thread in the first place but I see this guy asking over and over again can his cap be to big. I am far from a pro when I comes to car stereo installation but I have done my share of basic installs for my self and friends and try and give this guy an answer. Now that I look at it I believe the reason I tried to answer the question is because I just did a 6 frad cap for one of my amps and I also found it frustrating that no one would answer this guy.

Its now 4 months later and I come across what happened after I tried to help this guy.

I was called a troll and I have no idea what I am talking about. I was made fun of for trying, I did give my email address so If some one had something to show me what was wrong I could possibly learn something. This did not happen.

The cap is too big.

I will try to share a little on this for what its worth and it’s not worth much. Back in lets say 1970 if you had one bad spark plug wire under your hood it would be able to introduce enough noise into your radio that you could easily hear it. A small capacitor about the size of your thumb could be added to the back of the radio to filter out the noise. Back in the day there were many noise sources like points and condensers, distributer caps, and non resister plugs. So in short caps were and are used to filter out noise along with other things. In today’s cars there is very little chance of noise being a problem because so many things have seen major improvements.

One other area that I want to share on is charging and discharging without going into a lot of detail about ESR values and electrical principals that won’t be understood anyways. A cap is designed to discharge or deliver its stored potential much faster than a battery and that same design also allows a cap to be recharged much faster than a battery. We may soon see caps that have far better values and use in cars due to the design improvements around electric cars.
