ipod + pioneer flipout = no sound?

ok so i got my dads old ipod tonight (gen1) and i have a pioneer (AVH-P5700DVD) and the ipod adapter thing to make the ipod stuff pop up on the cd player. everything works fine and shows up on the cd player but no sound comes out. it shows songs info and it says its playin cause the time changes like its playing the song.

any help?
