Ipod into receiver?

Quick question....I'm setting up a small dorm setup and was wondering...can I take my Ipod, plug in a headphone-jack style plug(sorry dont know the technical term) to RCA plug, then plug in the RCA's to my receiver and have it play? I thought this would work but I'm unsure....

Yes it will, you can also buy the dock, and leave it plugged into your reciever and then dock your ipod. Of course, if in your room, why not just play itunes on your computer?

Didnt think of the dock idea....And I dont have Itunes on my comuter.
