inverting subs

yes you can still do it, if you have one of the newer alpine decks it has an option in the subwoofer controls when you invert the sub, which inverts the signal to the sub. but even if you dont have that control, it will sound the same. i personally have done it many times.

 
ep, just switch the wiring. positives to negatives, negatives to positives.
Not completely necessary.

The polarity should be wired to acheive the best results in your vehicle, not according to the positive and negative markings.

Try it with the sub's wired both ways and see which results in the best performance in your specific installation. Relative phase is what's important, not absolute phase.
