Head unit question

I think I already know the answer to this, but just curious. I own a 95 Grand Cherokee which has an Alpine headunit (can't remember the model, but its a pretty recent model) and has the stock Infinity gold speakers and amp. I also own a 2000 F-150 which has the stock HU an aftermarket amplifier (Aura RPM4200) and speakers (Infinity Kappa's).

Now, no matter what I do the Grand Cherokee always sounds better than the F-150 (clearer, fuller sound). The only thing I can think of that would make this difference is the HU, so does an aftermarket HU really make that big of a difference? even when using stock speakers/amp Vs stock HU and aftermarket speakers/amp?

Thanks.

You can't put all the difference on the head unit, especially when it's not even the head unit's amp driving the speakers in the Jeep. You're comparing two completely different vehicles with different cabins, interiors, speaker locations, etc. It's very unlikely that they'd sound the same even if you used the same head unit, speakers and amps in both.
