Inverting sub?

No advantage other than looks.

And no, the box should not be the same dimensions. With the sub mounted "normal", the subwoofer takes up a wee bit of airspace that must be compensated for in the gross volume. With the sub inverted, the sub no longer takes up this space (and can actually add a small bit of volume), so the gross box size is smaller while maintaining the same net box size.
